cam rising on the front of espn's college football page:

    Recruits to watch for...
Every top 25 team has an eye toward the future, looking for the player it hopes is the next big thing. At Oklahoma, that's QB Cameron Rising.

Well he better start recruiting some more kids to play on the defensive side.

So apparently we are expecting a commitment on defense soon, any guesses?

Damn, some of our guys made the mistake of committing to OU before ESPN's first rankings came out. Sucks for Walker and Pledger.

No idea.. & it may not matter if Riley isn't going to be here.. That's the only way I think Rising would've switched.. Herman convinced him this is Riley's last year in Norman..

That is one possibility--though I would be wondering what Casey Thompson's mindset is, at the moment. He just got recruited over.

Its like Herman just kissed him. then turned around and farted in his face.

    Who is up?

Adrian Martinez 4* from new mexico currently committed to Cal

Tanner McKee is from California and is a 4* expected to go to Stanford, but Stanford already is set at QB for 2018

Dorian Thompson is a Bishop Gorman, 4* dual threat QB with eyes on UCLA and Michigan, showing he will travel.

Justin Rogers 4* DT QB has been slow rolling LSU and has already shown interest in Big 12 teams

Spencer Sanders was predicted to go OU before we got the verbal from Rising

Gerry Bohanon is an intriguing 4* QB DT out of Arkansas who is looking outside of the SEC, holds and offer from Bama

Tanner Mordecai is poachable from Waco

Given UT's record with touted QBs since Colt, probably not too worried

Of the pro-style guys, how many have the mobility that Lincoln Riley covets?

I don't particulary want Casey. i respect the family name but his arm strength isnt on point to run a true air raid. I don't want the OK State qb very much either, seems like a project and future transfer. I'd rather go all in o a 2019 kid now, and shift the qb scholarship to be used elsewhere - yes i know that's risky but we're not hurting for QBs on campus

A transfer & an injury is all it takes... That's why you sign one every class.. & we've got offers out to 2019 guys already, so they're being recruited.. Got to get a 2018 guy in the fold to start leading the class..

I didn't expect the flip. That said, there has been smoke for a while. I am beginning to come to the same conclusion about Rising.

Robison committed last year and went to work recruiting others. Whomever Riley goes after to replace Rising, he needs to be vocal and bleed crimson and cream. I would rather Lincoln Riley go after a dual-threat guy. Maybe even that Bishop Gorman kid.

It's a risk, but still. Murray, Kendall, Robison can last a year if need be you can always find a grad transfer. If we're not going to get an elite prospect that can push for time its essentially buying travelers insurance for a day trip to Oklahoma City - not needed

Here's a blog I just read. There's only two names in there that even remotely interest me

Murray wins the job next spring.. Kendall decides to transfer.. Robison gets a stress fracture in his foot.... What do you have?

That's why you sign one every year...

In your scenario : you find a grad transfer in the spring/bring in a juco arm. its as good as settling for just another guy at qb and less years of a scholarship commitment

It wouldn't be settling for another guy unless Riley scraped the bottom of the barrel. All the guys we are talking about are top 5 to 15 quarterbacks. They're not exactly scrubs.

Excuses may normally be worth a bag of monkey ****s, but we might actually have a legitimate one this time if our "rock solid" QB commit was waffling like a **** for the last month. I doubt he was picking up the phone to help fill out the class if he was busy thinking about other schools. It might actually help explain some things.

At this point I would take a "monkey ****" as a commit!!! But good point we have been spinning our our wheels thinking our QB was doing anything positive. MF'er

there seems to be some extreme negative recruiting going on, the combo of no commits that were rumored to commit from the spring game recruiting weekend and now decommits is puzzling. i'm beginning to think herman might have to do with a lot of this after hearing about the pitch he gave to rising's family about riley not being around by the time rising gets to college.

    – Recruiting in General: I’m going to try to formulate my general thoughts on OU’s current recruiting efforts but I think it’s important to note that while the last couple weeks haven’t been great for OU, the happenings are not all occurring for the same reasons.

There are a number of story lines but one that isn’t talked about much that is highly notable to me is the fact that outside of Darrell Simpson, OU does not appear to lead for any of the top prospects in Texas.

Again, more on this later… – (Super K)

Saw that. Not good. However, we can change that easily if we play well this season. Beat tOSU, go to playoffs, and hopefully at the very least get to the champ game.

Because its true... Winning this season won't help much with this class... We need a QB commit or some kind of leader for the St2k18 group, that's all in & can start leading the charge or this class will be a waste of some good seasons...

So seriously, what's up with recruiting? Are there some issues that we don't know about yet, or have the last couple weeks just been a isolated but prolonged case of shitty luck.

Regardless, we need to hang a 77-0 beat down on Herman.

Maybe HellVol was right. Maybe we don't have elite recruiters.

  47. #397
People need to calm down. OU will get who they're supposed to get. It's frustrating to lose "commitments", but those kids have the right to change their mind. Also as it pertains to recruiting in Texas this cycle; people need to realize where the talent is concentrated this year. Houston has way more talent and depth this year and unfortunately it has not been a good city to gain commitments from. This class is going to be more like 16' than 17'. OU is going to have go national for a lot of its needs. Good news is OU has proven that they can do so. If OU can three peat and somehow make it back to the playoffs you'll see the 19' be more like the 17' class.

As long as Riley's around, if we find ourselves in a pickle at QB, there'll be transfers and jucos fighting each other for the chance.

And while neither Robison nor Kendall has done a single thing on campus that would suggest good judgment, transferring out if/when Murray takes the job would be foolish. He's a running QB and not a particularly big one. If he's the man for two years, the backup will see some amount of meaningful time.

Losing a QB is not a real problem right now. Losing momentum in the 2018 class, with serious questions on the other side of the ball, is a real problem.

    Silver Lining Alert:

At least other coaches can't tell recruits that our DC will be gone soon; so we got that going for us.
