I think they are going to turn on Booger's hemorrhoid, aka MH, first. I don't think there will be enough interested in basketball program now to turn on Boynton....at least for a while!

Booger demanded that Holder was named as AD BEFORE he donated the big bucks! They were buds before and Booger trusted Holder (to be as big of an a$$ as he was!) so I don't think MH is going anywhere, at least until Booger dies.

Holder deserves a raise and an extension. Wonder if he'll give it to himself or call Boone first.....

This guy they hired apparently can't recruit. So he's a no on one of the three as well--and I don't think we know if the kids will respond to him either. I have a suspicion OSU is about to be a dumpster fire, and that's fine with me. Des and or Doug had a chance to be really good. This guy they hired doesn't it appears.
You're arguing with a guy who used to coach basketball for a living.

Hiring Boynton is a no win proposition in my opinion. Two things can happen:

    1) He'll not be good at it, recruiting will suffer, attendance will drop, won't make the tournament, etc.

    2) He'll have success and get hired by a Big East team (he's from New York) and be gone, and they'll have to start the coaching search all over again.

Boynton was with Underwood at SFA and came with him to OSU. I'd like to know why Underwood didn't take him to Illinois.

Also - have we heard what Boynton's salary will be?

I agree with this completely. I heard he didn't go with BU because he was going to try for the head job. Just a rumor though. No clue if true. But it makes some sense. Haven't heard salary.

I guess by hiring Boynton, they just keep searching in the mean time. Get him for dirt cheap, if he's above average its okay for now and you keep searching for your guy while you pay off Ford? (not sure what they still owe.)
My issue would be the step backwards in recruiting and the program getting pushed back further away from being able to make any post season noise.

And I don't understand the whole Gottlieb or Des situation.
I would take that as a slap in the face if former players with no coaching experience thought they deserved that opportunity.
Hiring either of them would have been an even worse mistake, imo, and made the situation even more of a joke.

The big XII has a long list of good coaches.
IMO, OSU just put themselves in last place with Boynton.

The $165M peaked out at nearly $500M. Then it went to $0. Margin call. Welcome aboard Boynton.

I'm sure this is why they are pinching pennies for a basketball coach!

They gave Ford that ridiculous contract a couple years after your article so, not buying it.

    So...no.

Oh yea, I know. I'm just saying that if they're gonna blow that wad on a guy like Ford for performance like that, then perhaps they should just throw caution to the wind and not worry about conventional wisdom. Let's face it, they're both a crap shoot, except if you ultimately see the upside to DG, it's a virtual certainty he's not going anywhere. If Boynton has success, he's gone, it's a given Holder wouldn't match the offers.

And too add to that playing ability and/or longevity never always translates to coaching ability. As far as Kerr goes what has he proven? He can win with superstars? Cub could do that.

If I am the OSU AD and you tell me I gotta go cheap I'm doing one of two things.

I'm cutting the bullshit and taking the risk with Doug. Taking a chance...but at least if you win, he's gonna be around for a long while.

Or I'm interviewing 15 ****ing guys from all around the country, a diverse group, taking my time to get input from all over and find a diamond in the rough.

Some might even add a third option, which I don't really like, recycling a proven guy. Seems like Holder not only didnt do any of those things, he actually pulled a GW Bush. "I put Cheney in charge of finding me a VP, he says he knows just the right guy..." The best thing I can say is at least Holder didnt recycle some guy that's already been fired. But Dana Altman and I'm sure a few others might have something to say about that. I just hate it in football. Give a new guy a chance.

Guy over at GoPokes says that they told Scott that Sean had to go and he said no. Don't know if it's related to ORU's "moral code".

They're also saying he was told by the President of the University to no longer recruit players with tattoos... If that's real, I'm not sure how you find someone to coach for a President like that.. Maybe Gottlieb.. not really but maybe..?
