Tony Hull at KU greatest recruiter in the world OR shennanigans?

Anyone think there might be something shady going on at KU, Tony Hull has pulled commits from about 5 guys out of Nola that have offers from every school in the SEC Bama, Auburn LSU plus OU, Texas, Florida S. etc.

I know, holding them might be tough, but getting visits from these guys was amazing under the circumstances, much less getting commits.

Seems like Ole Miss all over again. But if he's legit, then if Mike and or Kish move on we need to try to find a place for this guy. Anyone have any insight on him?

Beautiful campus, playing time available, $350,000,000 of facilities improvements coming, young, aggressive coaching staff, beat Texas last year, stud high school coach from N.O. Recruits probably went to a basketball game (think they were there in Jan. or Feb.) and saw it was packed 30 minutes before tipoff.

The immediate playing time, while also knowing you can still make it to the NFL (Alums like Talib and Harris) is probably a decent factor. Throw in a coach from your hometown who understands what your HS football is like, and you are finding a coach you can rely on. Not sure they'll hold several of the guys, but doubt KU's paying anyone considering they're all tied up in basketball recruits.

You're Kansas. You can keep not making bowls, or risk...not being allowed in bowls. There's not much to lose.

To players who want to play in the NFL, it really is, because they also realize NFL scouts will find you wherever you are. However, just as equal reasons could easily include beautiful campus, fun college community, centrality in the US, primarily basketball, but nonetheless sports fans.

In terms of coaches who COULD make Kansas football larger than it is, in addition to the above, the location should easily attract recruits from places like Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Illinois. The centrality of the campus in the US should also allow them to stay in the running for most recruits. KU has plenty of alumni and booster money to dole out with the right coach who can market a good plan for stadium and other facility improvements. Or, could it possibly be the administration has no intention of allowing the football program to even sniff success that puts them in competition for sports fans talking about football as much as basketball? Maybe after Mangino they saw what they really don't want.

i doubt the administration has an agenda to keep the football team from stealing the spotlight from the bball team.
KU is simply getting attention because the players are getting a lot of attention for even considering the option to play at KU. they won't end up there because the sec won't allow good players to leave the area. if the sec really wants em, they'll get em.

It would take an awful lot of money to make a 5 star guy go to KU for no other reason other than the money. That's why I think this is legit recruiting. Taking 30 grand to go to Auburn over LSU is one thing. Taking 30 grand to go to KU over LSU something altogether different.

I will be surprised if they all hold. But KU had a freshman safety this past year from Louisiana, maybe from N. O. that is very good, and his starting as a freshman and being very good is an example to these other recruits of what they can do. I don't think there is money involved here for KU, and is why I don't think they all hold. But the coach is a former math teacher in New Orleans and cares about the recruits and that resonates with mommas and daddys.

If the administration didn't want football to succeed, they wouldn't be spending the bulk of the $350,000,000 on football upgrades.

This recruiting will not hold up. If Tony Hull is such an amazing recruiter he will have a new job by signing day for significantly more money.

I also doubt it, but for all the key resources a school could have that contribute to developing a winning program, many of which I listed earlier, KU has those, in addition to quality academics. So you tell me, absent some conspiracy to keep the program down, why don't they already have a solid program in place, and what is keeping a solid coach from landing there? Seems to me with the actual and potential resources they have, coaches would WANT to be the face of a turnaround. My God, Bill Snyder did it at KSU twice!! And the KSU/Manhattan is somewhat the equivalent of OSU/Stillwater.

After how KU 86'd Mangino, they had a difficult time finding a coach. Turner Gill - failure. Fat Boy Weis - bigger failure. Had Beatty not been an assistant there previously, I doubt he'd have returned. Lousy stadium currently.

KU has had moments when they were a good football team, but the coach responsible either leaves, gets fired (Mangino) or can't keep things rolling (Pepper Rodgers).

No disagreement here whatsoever, but as I said, KSU of all places had "a lousy stadium" with arguably a worse campus, geographic location, and less available donor support. So if KU can't make it happen, I have to lay it at the doorstep of the administration, which means it's either intentional or just incompetence.

He was promoted to an associate head coach with a huge raise earlier this year due to what you just said. Supposedly LSU, A&m and others were interested in making a position for him

  40. #40
If they don't come to ou I can't think of a better place for them to sign than ku. KU will still be a pretty bad and the sec won't have those players who could actually make a difference on their teams.

Slime ball assistants who will do anything will trump any of those examples ....just ask ole miss .

You think a 17 year old kid from Louisiana cares about beating Texas , they haven't been relevant since he was double digits .

Hull was a respected HS coach in the New Orleans area and has good relationships with other HS coaches in New Orleans. It was just a smart hire, not tricks.

Eh probably. No one really knows. The common story told is that they were killed with baseball bats. The Casino portrayal is mostly fictitious as Frankie Cullotta (Frank Vincent) was not actually here when the Spilotro brothers were killed. The story from an informant is that they were lured to a basement under the guise that Michael Spilotro was going to be inducted into the Chicago Outfit and were beaten almost to death and then dumped in the corn field.

The Spilotro brothers knew they were likely being lured into a trap. Apparently both told family members that they might not return from where they were going.

Their bodies were found months later when the farmer noticed the ground had recently been dug up. A crazy tidbit is that the autopsy photos for them can be found online. Tony is easily recognizable, Michael looks like something out of a horror movie.

Even if most go someplace else, for a while at least, KU coaches can say look at the progress we are making…These commitments are being used like a marketing tool.
This builds positive momentum with other good recruits but also with the KU faithful who maybe more willing to open their wallets so the new football facilities can be constructed.

According to William Roemer, whose book The Enforcer is where a lot of the movie Casino cam from, Spilotro and his brother were knocked out pistol style as sooon as they got out of the car.

    A true recruiting mystery

    https://n.rivals.com/content/prospec...nta-jason-2208

How on earth did Kansas get a 5 star WR out of Louisiana? He had offers from Bama, OU, LSU, Florida and Georgia. And he picks the Jayhawks????

Anyone know what his story is?
