Looks like we got another juco commit today (see landthieves twitter for stories) anyways i know it's been mentioned a time or two but what do you think of bringing in juco kids? personally i love the idea...most of these kids have a chip on their shoulder and were not prized recruits so have had to prove to the world that they can be here ala whaley...i really hope these kids bring in a new attitude and prove that you have to work to get anything in life

Nelson Named KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year
    November 14, 2011

Six Other Broncbusters Named to All-Jayhawk Teams

The post-season awards came out for the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference on Sunday, and despite not having a high number of athletes on the team Garden City Community College did have a player receive one of the highest honors. Sophomore defensive end Chaz Nelson was named the Jayhawk Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Nelson had an outstanding year leading the Broncbuster defense in almost every statistical category. He had 96 tackles on the year including 71 solo tackles. 15 of those tackles were for combined losses of 44 yards. He also posted nine and a half sacks on the season for a total loss of 69 yards and forced four fumbles on the season. The unusual stat was that he led the Busters in p**** break ups as he deflected a number of passes at the line of scrimmage. Nelson also added one interception that he returned 11 yards for a touchdown. In addition to his defensive performance on the year, Nelson also played tight end in goal line and short yardage situations for GCCC

I'm okay with bringing in a couple junior college guys a year, but I don't want to start to completely reload the roster every 2 years like Purple Kansas does. If we have a major hole or two that we need to fill then I'm okay getting a junior college guy to fill the void for a couple of seasons, but anything beyond that I'm uncomfortable with. Taking junior college kids is very risky. Sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough, like Whaley or a Aaron Rodgers, who comes in with a chip on their shoulder and is willing to work their tail off. But other times you can get guys who just can't stay out of trouble; whether it be just academic or legal.

I think it has as much to do with how hard it is for him to stay eligible and being in the top half of the draft is enough.

There is absolutely no chance Ronnell plays at OU next season. He's already put in notice on his apartment and is set to leave town and train for the combine as soon as the bowl game is over.

You also don't see projected NFL draft boards.

It appears he is originally from Columbus, OH. Not a huge recruiting info guy, do we know what is offer list was prior to JC? I personally think the offer list is the best barometer. Did the Bucks want him and he just couldn't qualify? Or is he a late bloomer?

He's shooting for playing this week, but final say is not up to him. Coaches have to give him the green light. My understanding is he wants to play the bowl game too - regardless of whether or not the coaches okay him for Bedlam.
