I tried Glenmorangie over at a friends on NYE. I wasn't too terribly impressed. I prefer Glenlivet or Glenfiddich over it. I'll give it another shot but flavor seemed a little too harsh.

THE humid streets of Waco, Tex., may not have much in common with the misty glens of Scotland, home to some of the world's best malt whiskeys.

Not much, that is, until last month, when a single-malt whiskey from the Balcones Distillery in Waco bested nine others, including storied Scottish names like the Balvenie and the Macallan, in a blind panel of British spirits experts.

I will pick some up in February, when I drive down to Granbury.

Looking at pictures online it looked like we were drinking the 10yr original

I think the Original is a good intro to Scotch, it is the biggest seller in Scotland. Stay away from Islays if you dont like Glenmorangie.

This has been my vice of late. I really like it and at $45.00/750 ml its doesn't hurt.

I like my Scotch to punch me in the mouth with peatiness.

Did this ever happen? I could not find it if there was one.

Fantastic value, I think better than MacAllan 12 for those who are big fans of the more floral/smooth type scotches. Nothing particularly amazing, but for under $50, it's hard to beat.

Not sure if I have ever read a 3 page thread word for word. But I feel like I learned more from this thread than any other ever on LT. Well done.
