    Yep.
I think by the end of this season we are right on the bubble... hopefully we get in. We have done well so far but we haven't played the meat of our conference schedule yet.
Hopefully we keep building on this momentum with recruiting, and ultimately, wins.

still think we are on the bubble?
we beat the 2nd place team in conference on their home floor...
we are in the hunt to finish top 2 or 3....
it will come down to road wins between us....kstate/iowa st/baylor/osu.....
and we are the first to get one....(against each other)

osu lost by 10 in waco...
iowa st lost at tech but won in austin....
    baylor also won in austin...

Let me preface my prediction by saying I truly believe our team will be improved as a team and play better basketball this year. However, I'm not convinced it is going to show up in our record as much as everyone would like and most of you seem to expect.

Looking at our schedule I honestly see us going 16-14 right now. Maybe I will want to revise that when the season is closer but looking at our schedule that's just the first impression I get.

    Key match ups:

@ Arkansas - That's a tough place to play but they are also going to be pretty young.

Ohio - Say what you want about them being a mid-major but they are a mid-major who went dancing last year and took UNC to overtime. They literally have EVERYTHING returning for them this season from that team as well. They didn't lose a single player who played meaningful minutes last season. This is going to be a tough game but feel free to disregard my warning like I ****ume the crimson shade clan will likely do. All I will say thank God it is at home because I doubt we would beat them in Ohio and less than likely on a neutral court as well.

West Virginia (series) - I really feel they only made the tournament last year because they played in the Big East. They have that record or perform like that in any other conference that ESPiN doesn't suck off they are probably shooting hoops at home in the NIT; they got ran off the court by Gonzaga. Having said that . . . GOT DAMN they were young last year; I don't think I have ever seen as many freshman on one team that made the Big Dance out of a major conference before.

I know there are other very important games to win: Oklahoma State, Iowa State, etc. but those were the three/four that really jumped out at me based on our expectations and last year's performance.
well....it's obvious now who has been smoking the crack pipe.....
our most knowledgeable......most consistently frequent poster (except after wins of course).....
we are now sitting at 16 wins with 7 games remaining....
hard to believe someone as knowledgeable as scs could have missed so badly.......

I think we are in right now. The KU game was the signature win we needed to secure it for now. But there's a ways to go. Bedlam this weekend I'd say goes to OSU. When did we beat big XII #2? Baylor? We need to beat Baylor at home, and the ISU game is a big one if we can get it. Something tells me @Texas will be a tough one... they'd love to spoil our party. If we get to 21 wins, I think we are in. That would mean 5-2 to finish. If we go 4-3, I think we are on the bubble, but probably get in with the KU win. This could be a tough stretch, especially if we lose to OSU, then lose one we shouldn't like Baylor or @Tech (I don't think we will, but just saying) and the pressure would really be on us to win if that's the case. But I think we go 5-2, losing to OSU, and @Texas.

Big XII is still a log jam... KU losing 3 in a row let everyone in the mix, and now they'll have to win out. I don't think OSU or KSU will drop below OU, so its pretty important for OU to stay ahead of Baylor. I think we will. The Iowa State game is huge because I think the big XII gets 5 in the tourney but not 6.

They have exceeded my expectations to this point. If we finish up well(atleast 3-1) and get a 5-6 seed, I think we could win a couple games in the dance. I was hopeful of a tournament bid early in the year, now I think we should win a game or 2 depending on matchups. I think Lon has done a excellent job and can't wait to see what the freshmen do with another year under their belt. BOOMER!!

Son of a ****...Bounce was right about something. This is from March 2012. You may not know **** about sprinting technique, but you nailed this.

Again...well done. Regular season is almost done, and IMO, your 2nd round ceiling prediction (from October 2012) is spot on. Match up/seeding will play a HUGE part of whether we have a shot at the Sweet 16.

Maybe you should stick to basketball only.

sweet 16 was my ceiling prediction as well .....but for that to happen ....i think mbaye is going to have to step up his game....
osby/pledger/grooms are playing great .......hornbeak is doing ok......mbaye is the key to the sweet 16...
of course seeding will be crucial...would be nice to get a 6 seed....

Ug with last night's loss the tournament may be a far reach. Gotta win out to have a chance and do well in the conference tournament. Second place in the tournament would get the team there. Otherwise it is the NIT.

Says the guy whose first post in this thread is the one quoted here.

I'll be the first to admit we have done better than I thought we would at that time. Glad to be wrong!

I knew better than to make a prediction.
I had no idea how good or bad the team would be a year ago.

You know, as they say... Better to remain silent and be thought a fool...

When we beat TCU this weekend, we can sew up the #3 seed in the conference tourney if the pokes lose to kstate Which would keep us from facing KU until the finals.

This season has been a great improvement. Lon is the coach of the year. I hope OU can keep him for a long time.

If Coach Kruger can figure out how to coach his team to beat a press and slow down after crossing mid-court when they do beat a press, this team wouldn't be 20-9. It would be AT LEAST 22-7, probably in 2nd place in the Big 12, and vying for a 4-seed in the dance. We've had too many games where teams have made it close or beat us after applying the press. Kruger HAS to get this team better prepared for those situations b/c they've obviously shown they are good enough to beat just about anybody. And when those better teams press, we're losing. If we can get that under control and take the game to the free throw line....good night and hello Sweet 16.

I REALLY hate that Osby is going to be out of eligibility. I think this team would be top 10 next year with Osby.

Its slowing down after breaking the press that killed us. We had numbers almost everytome but pulled back and didn't attack

gotta agree with Bounce on this one. The Texas game was the worst because when we werent turning it over in the backcourt, we would push forward and instead of taking it to the basket, we were either settling for a quick 3 (awful) or pulling it back and letting the defense get reset. In those instances, when you break the press, you usually get some kind of 2 on 1 opportunity and you have to have both guys attacking the basket to make the defensive team pay for that.

Unfortunately, what I see way too often from us (and saw in the Texas game ALOT) was we would break the press and Pledger would fade out to the 3 point line without the ball instead of cutting to the bucket to make the last defender choose to defend either the ball or him. i know he wants to jack up 3s all the time but if you go make the last defender guard you 2 on 1, youre either gonna get a layup or fouled.
