I really like this kid.
He definitely doesn't shy away from contact and has great range.
Somehow I got to believe that this kid is related to Joe Mastrogiovanni, Wyoming QB 53-55. Honorable mention AA 1955.
After watching his film, I'm cautiously optimistic should we land him. You can see the kid knows his stuff, but lacks elite athleticism. Hopefully OU's S&C program can turn him into a monster. You can't teach instincts, but you can certainly make him stronger and faster!
Kick **** name too!
This Friday, Dallas (TX) Jesuit linebacker Jordan Mastrogiovanni will trip to Norman, Oklahoma for the first time since receiving an offer from the Sooners earlier in May.
Per Taylor Hamm of Gigem247.

Joseph J. Mastrogiovanni
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Sport: Football, Baseball
Years: 1953-55
Also known as "Mastro" or "Joe the Toe", Joe Mastrogiovanni would come to be one of the most memorable and flamboyant football players in Wyoming history. A two-way player, who came to Wyoming as a halfback, Mastrogiovanni would become Wyoming's first throwing quarterback. Joe was in all aspects a leader on his teams, leading the Pokes in passing for three years, total offense and scoring for two years, and in punting and interceptions for one year each. Twice selected to the All-Skyline first-team and once a second-team selection, Mastrogiovanni led the nation in rushing the first eight weeks of the 1955 season, before finishing second nationally and earning honorable mention All-American honors from AP and UPI. The Cowboys were 19-11-1 from 1953-55, and in 1955 Joe led a talented Cowboy team to the Sun Bowl. Unfortunately, he was injured in the last regular-season game and could not play in the bowl game. A gifted athlete, Mastrogiovanni served at times as the Cowboys' placekicker and was responsible for three game-winning field goals in the 1954 season. Joe also competed for the Wyoming swimming team and was a letterman on the 1955 Cowboy baseball team as a catcher.
Mr. Mastrogiovanni earned his bachelor's degree, with high honors, from the University of Tulsa in 1983, and his Juris Doctorate from Tulsa University in 1986. He is licensed to practice in all state courts of the State of Texas, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas, United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Mastrogiovanni has been named a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly Magazine, and holds the highest ethical and quality ratings available from Martindale Hubbell.

Was the father any type of college athlete?
^ im not sure
Summarizing his visit per ESPN: Lots of good thinks to say about Stoops, almost pulled the trigger. Wants to sleep on it for a couple of days
pretty much it looks real good for us.
so is he going to pull the trigger?
Good enough for LSU's defense good enough for me!
Haven't had a good Italian linebacker since Paul Migliazzo.

i know a star rating doesn't equal whether a player will be good or not but this kid had some major schools going after him and he's only a 3 star...any particular reason for this rating? his measurables look great
Diamond Mastro
The Don
Jordan "Machine Gun" Mastrogiovanni
So now that he is in the fold....What is the holdup on a full court press on Mitchell??? A very, large position of need...Seems to be a really good player and also has a younger brother who is a stud on that hardcourt that I am sure we could use in 3 yrs.
You know BB Sr would've struggled with this name.

This is a good get for us! Boomer!
OU is very thin at LB position. Coming off last year's roster there are:
3 Srs
2 Jrs
1 Soph
1 FR
1 Fr from 2012
and 2 walkons
The LB recruiting needs quality but also quantity or by 2014 OU might not be able to put 3 decent(not top) LBs on the field at any one time. This new signing helps but t5here is a long way to go here.
Great pick up, I was hoping we would land him. He is a very underrated prospect who can lay the wood.
There is no way "Mastrogiovanni" is going to fit on the back of a jersey.
SLB: Joseph Ibiloye 5 (Sr); Frank Shannon 20 (RS Fr); Londell Taylor 13 (RS Fr) WO
MLB: Tom Wort 21 (Jr); Jaydan Bird 55 (Sr)
WLB: Corey Nelson 7 (Jr); Aaron Franklin 25 (Soph); Erik Striker 19 (Fr); Caleb Gastelum 45 (Soph) WO
Franklin is probably a full-time deep snapper now. Favors and Lindley were moved to DE in the spring; don't know whether that is permanent or not.
Big kid that will only be able to play in the middle IMO. He looks to have slow feet and isnt very explosive. Im sure he can come downhill and stuff the run pretty well, but change of direction may be an issue. He just didnt look very fast in the film. I think of Jayden Bird when I see him, but not as good yet. Bird is a good MLB. Ryan Reynolds also comes to mind. But, our staff developes very well, so we will see.
