First of all it's a movie which did nothing to make someone think they would receive a sociological education watching it. It's Tarantino & most people know what his movies are about....... Did you see the trailers??? Did you go for a social enlightenment or to be entertained by a movie????

You see, I have never bought into the online activist who fight for the causes of everyone on a message board. Being a black man I can better impact my community by getting on the ground level and mentoring young black boys & girls, volunteering my time, and pouring myself out as an example of a black man who chose to correct personal mistakes and strive to live as an example to my young people of color.

My daughter is almost 15 yrs. old now, and she knows plenty about the history of black people pre/post coming to America. She also knows the importance of education, obeying the law, and uplifting all people who are oppressed, disadvantaged, and mistreated.

I stand by my statement. I went to the movie to be entertained. If I had wanted an education on slavery, or any other social issues, I would have gone to the Revolutionary Bookstore in D.C., or an academic website like the Howard University Black Education Online website. I don't need Tarantino to educate me or my family, I got that covered, so I won't be offended by something obviously meant to be entertaining.

It's high time IMO, the black community stop using everything as a reason to get upset, and start holding the community and each other accountable for our actions. Of course we can all see the problems and biases which still exist, but let not that become your excuse, but rather your motivation..... If I can quote a real slave NOT featured in QT's work of fiction entertainment.

Finally saw this movie the other night. Lots of black people in the theater. They all laughed.

    QT movies are awesome.

We're all to hypersensitive over race and things that happened 150+ years ago. It's 2013.

I'm not the one who tried to act like Quentin Terrantino handled slavery with care and honesty. You were.

Well if that is how I was perceived, then I apologize because I know enough about Tarantino and Hollywood in general to not expect anything more than entertainment. Roots itself was entertaining, and in some parts enraging/uplifting, but it was also very fictional.

I guess I could see how someone who sees slavery as an us against them, or is still hung up on slavery would be offended. I choose to not be hung up on slavery anymore, because I know the impact it's had on black America, and I know where to go to find out the truth about it. Tarantino wouldn't crack my top 10000000000 of sources on real slavery depictions. He is however, a good movie writer, IMO, and that is all I'll ever need him for.

Good to see you on board sir. Didn't know you were over here. I'm surprised I don't ever see you in the Dome. You always had good insight into social issues......

I thought the movie was excellently made, was a well designed comedy, and I laughed, but a white guy can make that movie. A black guy makes that movie and it's received entirely differently, imho. RE: Dave Chappelle and the time machine bit where the players club kills the plantation owner. Caused a huge uproar. Loved them both.

I don't consider examining race as inherently wrong. The same as I don't think someone who talks about **** is a rapist. Because fear of a subject, or not talking about it, isn't going to make it better. It isn't going to stop m**** incarceration even if people in the black community start becoming more responsive to the challenges in their communities instead of looking for external solutions. In my view part of the problem is external and structural, so interal work is only part of the solution.

It's good to see you, too. I don't get on here much. Because my tolerance for mouthbreathers isn't what it used to be.

Can't really argue with what you said here. I personally believe the greatest fuel on the fire of racial dividing is IGNORANCE. Ignorance leads to intolerance and hatred, which are both preludes to racism. You made some strong points, but I expected that from you.

I guess I didn't have a negative reaction to that stuff because I went to a ****ing FICTION MOVIE. I didn't read a history book. Why does it matter that it was an unrealistic situation?

    Glad you asked, Jbaker.

My challenge is... Since, I'm not an ignorant ****stain who didn't read a history book, I had trouble suspending my disbelief.

Seen it two weeks ago. Some great parts, some good parts, some really dumb parts. Will not watch again.

i watched it on my flight to Paris a couple weeks ago. It's a fine movie, but has no business being 3 hours. that's my biggest issue with movies these days, too damn long.

and i agree with some others. at no point was i looking for anything educational or historical in this movie.

Samuel L Jackson totally killed it in this movie. Thought he was the best part!
