Watched Lion on the flight home from DC, late Friday night....I wish I had seen this on a bigger screen and in a seat that was far less turbulent than what I had- it's a great move and Nicole Kidman continues to show just how versatile she is, such a great actress

The first movie had everything going for it that tied it all together. This didn't have that. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it and I recommend going to see it. I'd say the first one wasn't great in one area. Everything was good and gave it a great flow.

This one had better moments but it wasn't a better movie. So it's a little bit more of a roller coaster ride. This one tried to do more character development while the last one was more plot driven. This one went a couple of different directions in terms of the plot and wasn't as focused as the first.
As far as the character development it felt a little forced at times like they felt like they had to do it.

The music was much better this time around. How it was used maybe not as much. For instance in the first one we get a dance off in the end. We do get a type of dance in the beginning like in the temple at the start of the first one.

The action was great. The CGI was great. The humor was better.

I'd go see it again but it won't have the replay value, to me, that the first one did.

If you loved the first one you'll enjoy this one so go see it.

    .. .----. -- -... . - - . .-. - .... .- -. -.-- --- ..-
I agree with a lot of this. Things where I differ in opinion:

The music really didn't do it for me in vol 2 as much as vol 1. There were some good songs, they just didn't seem as much as a part of the fabric of the movie as in the first.

And the humor seemed kind of forced in this one to me. It felt like they tried to force Grax to be more funny with things he said vs his personality style (like in vol 1). I told a friend that Grax had some of the best funny moments, but also some of the most forced semi-cringeworthy moments as well.

Overall I agree with you. This is worth seeing in the theater, but IMO it wasn't as good as the first one. If I'd rate the first as an 8.5/10, then vol 2 would probably be a 7.5 or so. Not too bad for a sequel to a really good movie.

I saw a Ben Affleck flick this weekend called Live By Night. 30's gangster movie. Pretty decent. Basically The Town set 70 years earlier...

Kill Command has bad audience reviews but good critic reviews. I give it a score as very good for Netflix. this is my "last seen."

Automata has bad reviews all around but it is one of my favorite movies.

I just watched this the other night. It was ok. Not a super unique concept, but interesting none the less.

Watched Rogue One for the first time since seeing it in the theater. Still a pretty dang good movie.

Went and saw King Arthur tonight with the wife (so she could drool over Charlie Hunnam). It was actually pretty good. Storyline and action kept me engaged in the film to the end. 7.5/10

    King ARTHUR...it was uh....interesting.

Directed by Guy Ritchie. Did not know that. If you liked his other movies and wanted him to infuse the same style in a movie about King Arthur? Here it is.

I know the critics hate it but I like Guy Ritchie's style, still it's hard to see it translate to something like King Arthur.

The documentary or the movie based on it?

Can you believe someone made a Broadway musical out of that story?

It was gut wrenching at times. A must watch though. I think it's rewatchable. The acting especially. Loved Robert Duvalls cameo.

Movies I recently watched and liked:

    Sicario. Loved it. Great movie.

Patriots Day. Liked it a lot. Really good.

Hell or High Water. Awesome flick. Damn good.

    Deepwater Horizon. Darn good also.

Thought new Guardians stunk. Was good for about 10 minutes and then was very blah.

If you think the movie's rough, read the book.

  31. #3081

the film adaptation of mccarthy's 'no country for old men' might be in my top 100.

"No Country" is one of my favorite films of the past decade or so. And one I find myself recommending to others more often than usual.

Never read "The Road" or saw the film. But I did read "Blood Meridian" and wonder if anyone will ever be able to adapt it to the big screen.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Had some good plot twists and decent action, but overall the movie was kind of a crappy end to a series that started out so well. 5.5/10.

Wizard of Lies - HBO original on the Bernie Madoff story

Really well done and acted - DeNiro is....well, he's just DeNiro

My only complaint was the way they went back and forth in time - just a bit disjointed....but you get a real sense of what a complete shithead Madoff was/is

Yea, the first three were pretty good, but the last three just spiraled into suckage. I never played the games, but am a fan of Milla J. So I had to watch them all, but could have easily done without the last three movies.

    Supposedly they're rebooting them.

Agreed. Apocalypse was probably my favorite out of the series and I thought Milla did an excellent job as Alice throughout the series. The final few films had their moments (and could have lead to an epic ending), but they didn't carry it out very well and did the series somewhat of an injustice.

I had saw where they are rebooting them also. Supposedly following the game series more than the previous ones did. Could be interesting.

Saw "Gifted" over the weekend. Cute, predictable - characters (especially bad grandma) were one-dimensional. But I enjoyed it, thought the young actress playing the central role did well, as did the lady who plays her friend/part-time caregiver (Octavia Spencer).

On Netflix earlier last week, I watched "The Paper Chase" and "The Imitation Game."

I was impressed with both. "Paper Chase" imo is a minor classic, despite how dated it seems now. Cumberbatch was phenomenal in "Game." That was one hell of a year for Oscar best-leading-actor performances.

One thing that frustrated me was the fourth movie came out (I think it was the 4th) right as 3D became really popular with movies. And it seemed like they basically made the movie just so they could show how cool all those 3D scenes could be....not really caring much about the story at all. That kind of soured me on the rest of them.

follow up with another, earlier Tim Bottoms film, The Last Picture Show, if you haven't already seen it. it's one of my favorites. his real life bro plays the handicapped kid. Okie Ben Johnson plays a huge role as Sam the Lion.
