I'm curious as well. A cursory look at it seems to show it as a OS mainly for touch screen computers--is it more than that? I don't have a touch screen computer, nor will I get one--is it worth upgrading to?
Installed it last night. I haven't had much time to mess with it but so far I like it. And the mouse still works fine but it's more fun to use the touch screen if you have one.
My brother has been beta testing 8 for a few months. Played with it a little bit. The tiles seem odd and are hard to get used to. They make more sense for touchscreen but not so much for a mouse.

The metro UI is meant more for tablets than desktop PC's, but it works. The regular desktop isnt much different than Win 7.
so far it seems to be much like windows 7 with an extra screen. No start button but you can get to everything from metro. not bad, just takes a little getting used to.
Buy it in 18 months, when it's almost stable.

Installed it, played around but really need a touch screen for it. It's not bad. The default tile layout shows that either they plan on spending more time developing a line of touchscreen everything or that they plan on trying to promote touchscreens for desktop setups. The metro view/nav works like the classic view worked for earlier vers. in that it helps you find prgms/settings your used to. fun to play with but no need migrate tho
I just finished setting up my uncles new computer. Windows 8 is the operating system. while the tiles are really cool, everything else sucks. Just getting to the control panel is a hassle. I'm not alone in this evaluation

don't bother upgrading if you have Windows 7.
I bought a new tower a while back and it had 7 on it. I didn't really care for it at all. My old one had XP and I really liked it. I bought my sister a laptop for Christmas with 8 and while setting it up I found - like you did - that it sucks. I think I'll stick with 7 on mine.
I'm still having a great time with it. Thinking about getting a Surface Pro once it's released. Then I'll have a Windows 8 PC, tablet, and phone.
I absolutely hate it. It's designed for a tablet system so navigation is very difficult on a desktop. I uninstalled it a few days ago and haven't looked back.
My brothers wife (works at microsoft) has a surface and its pretty fun to play with although i don't like Windows 8 at all. Hers has the touch screen plus a keyboard/touchpad connected to it which is nice. just not my preference. Although on my Mac i run OS X, W7, W8 i'm still hating W8.
