I've been playing it for a bit. I plan on getting in for real tonight.
So far, I am enjoying it. I have an industrial ****hole, and then a bedroom community next door in my private region. I'll post some images when I get home.
I don't take much stock in the metacritic score, it is a bunch of angry nerds mad at EA.
The bottom line to me is, this is a very fun game, with a lot of potential, taken down a huge notch by EA being ****heads. Once they get it together, the game will be great, I have been fortunate so far and gotten in multiple two hour sessions without a hitch.
I have hope that the map size will be expanded with an expansion. I might just be too optimistic, but with the region play and ease of switching between cities, I can scratch the sim city 4 itch a little bit.
The agent system is a bit goofy.
It's still funny, but Francis is a character. Maybe this was known, I don't know. See this:
DLC already up before they even fix the server issues
LOL
$10-$15 for building textures. **** you, EA.
The DLC is just the extra content from the Digital Deluxe edition. (The $79.99 version)
I haven't been able to play this game, but I thought you all might be interested in this: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416413,00.asp
Got in 3-4 hours yesterday in my private region. I have three cities, one is an industrial hellhole that produces oil for the regions power plant, and takes care of the region's garbage and **** (literally). It has an elementary school and a bunch of low income housing.
The second city is middle of the road, has some light industry, an elementary school and high school plus a hospital and lots of middle income housing and commerce. It provides water to the region and wind energy as a supplement to the oil city.
The third city is my crown jewel. High density high wealth housing, working towards high wealth commerce to complement my growing electronics industry. It has a university with a business school attachment. Low taxes on the wealthy and high taxes on the poor prevent any bad people from coming in the city. I make about 8000 credits per hour, but the real nice part is exporting those processors I build I get about 250000 per day with just a basic processor factory.
I think I am about done with that region though. My crown jewel is nice, but the traditional grid layout causes crippling gridlock, to the point where emergency services can't get around easily. I think I am going to do a curved road layout next and really try to break 100k population.
Thoughts on the game, after adjusting expectations, and realizing what this game is, I have to say it is my favorite yet. A few tweaks here and there will really make this into the best game in the series. I easily imagine I can put 100s of hours into this.
Has the game grown on you at all, Sancho?
Did anyone else get to play over the weekend?
Been following this game pretty closely. EA just did a blog about coming changes. I am still happy with the game, I probably just don't have the energy to be upset. I do understand why some are upset, but I think it is a great game and the tweaks EA has mentioned should make it better.

I think you've convinced me to give it a shot once the Mac version comes out. I'm with you, I don't get too fired up, too busy to get mad over trivial things, so I'll probably enjoy it.
Guardian review from today. Not good.

So I haven't played video games since shortly after the PS2 came out. I only had a couple of games for the PS2, one being college football and the other GTA Vice City. Played the hell out of Vice City, great game. Lost interest in gaming shortly thereafter and haven't played since.
That being said, I was very intrigued when I heard about a new SimCity coming out. I got hooked on SimCity 3K when I was in college and played that **** for what must have been hundreds of hours. I actually thought I might buy the new one when it came out, but then I saw the deluge of horrific press the game got. Obviously most of that press centered around the connectivity issues, but the Guardian review that I just posted talks about the shortcomings of the game largely without even taking the connectivity issues into account.
Long story short, I'm now wondering if A)I can find a copy of SimCity 3000, and B)if it will work on my computer. ; )
Yeah. Even after reading the somethingawful thread, 200 pages of negativity, I am still enjoying the **** out of this game. It has quirks, and I have to do goofy **** to make traffic flow correctly. The game is only getting better, and hopefully they will have the major pathing issues fixed by the time the mac client comes out.
Yesterday EA's CEO stepped down. Not sure if that is related at all but could be significant.
Also EA says they are sorry by trying to buy your love

Eight titles to choose from.

EA has revealed the list of eight Origin games that will be offered to owners of SimCity for free, by way of an apology for the game's teething issues.
Last week, the company apologised for the continuing connection and server issues players were experiencing and stated that everyone who registers the game before March 25 will be allowed to choose one Origin game from a list of eligible titles to download for free.
The eligible titles are Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition), Bejeweled 3, Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition), M**** Effect 3 (Standard Edition), Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition), Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition), Plants vs. Zombies and SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition. You'll have until March 30 to claim your free game.
The post also includes an explanation from developers Maxis, which reads, "At Maxis, our studio values dictate that we innovate and create something that is quirky, complex and challenging. Sometimes this bites us in the butt, but our servers are green and we’re seeing record numbers of players all online and having a great time.
"We’re getting great feedback from our fans and know that many of you are having fun and exploring this whole new expression of SimCity. We’re humbled by your patience and passion for the game. Thanks for building something very special with us, together."
It's true that most of the game's issues seem to be resolved; the company recently restored the non-essential features it disabled to ease the strain on the servers. Despite this, there are still no plans to introduce the offline mode many fans have asked for.
Is this gesture enough to compensate you for the troubles you experienced, or have you given up on SimCity? Let us know what you think and which game you'll be getting in the comments below.
Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition),
Wait, is this an apology or a punishment?

I went ahead and got Sim City 4 Deluxe...not a fan of Fps (in general) and I don't think playing need for speed without a wheel would be much fun.
