Barry Obama has been named Time Magazine (yes, they actually still exist, this was the news to me) 2012 Person of the Year. And you just can't make up part of the reasoning:
"He won re-election despite a higher unemployment rate than anybody's had to face in basically in 70 years," Stengel said on NBC's "Today" show.
If I made this statement up, as a reason for the award, I would be laughed at.

By that measure they need to go back and award OJ 1995's MOY as well since he was acquitted despite the insurmountable evidence against him. Fair's fair Time magazine.

It was going to come down to whoever won the WH. No one should be surprised.
Would have been nice to see the teacher from Hook or the Afghan girl get it. Publicity for the plight of Afghan women is more important than another feather in the Pres's cap.
I think bruthaman and boomermagic are confused. You need to read the editor of Time Magazine's reasoning for winning the "award." It's basically, "wow he somehow was able to get people who don't know anything to vote for him, despite how ****ty of a job he did in the first term." A quick google search into the editor's comments will provide you the information.
