Do you do this? If so, what and how much?
Wife and I were discussing last night what is expected and/or appropriate.
What about the garbage pickup guys?

I give $20 to the paper guy, and I give the trash folks gatorades twice a week in the summertime (on really hot days, I will give them a 10 for some beer or whatever they want to use it for)
We have one of those community boxes down the street...I don't even know what my letter carrier looks like.
I believe Curb Your Enthusiasm had an episode about holiday tipping. You'll find all your answers there.

My dad was a Mail Carrier for years. Majority of people don't give anything, He would still get a lot of gift cards and baked goods by the end of christmas. Some people would give cash inside of a card. Typically, gift cards would be anywhere between $10 and $25. Some of the businesses on his route would sometimes give $100 gift cards to their own store. So it really depends.
Oh and don't be poor.

We do lots of online shopping and we give our UPS/FEDEx/Mailperson the same thing we give our families....treats.
When we had the same girl she'd get like hat/scarves, maybe a fleece blanket along with baked stuff. Now that we've a toss on the end of someone different everyday nothing. The trash and recycle guys get baked goods and gloves. It's the only time of the year they brong the cans up to the garage as opposed to leaving them in the street or wherever.
I remember this one time when I came home early from school and just as I got to the door, the mailman came out of our house with a big smile on his face. He tousled my hair and walked away on his route with a spring in his step. I asked mom what that was all about, and she just said he must have really enjoyed his Christmas present.
People bring all kinds of treats to the station during the holidays. We get everything ranging from pies, cookies, brownies, See's candy, peanut brittle, banana nut bread, and fudge to beer, wine, Bailey's and other hard alcohol gift packs. I often re-gift items to the newspaper guy and garbage dude...

Love See's candy. I can get it at Rice Epicurean now, but we always loaded up when we went to California.
I'm not going to tip someone for doing a job where tips aren't implied.
**** that.. they get paid to do the job... it's not like they walk around with a tip jar hanging off their hip.
What the **** is a newspaper?
