Saw today that we signed 3 JUCO linemen and the thought immediately came to mind that we are becoming like KSU by relying heavily on the JUCO's to supply talent.
Not saying that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it is a thing.

Unfortunately, it seems to be a matter of not landing guys we wanted in the non-juco. If the talent is good, I've got no problem getting juco players.
I would consider it 'devolving,' rather than 'evolving'...

3 JUCO players is not "relying heavily" on JUCO to supply talent. We have always had 2 or 3 in most classes. CJ Ah You, Pasha Jackson, Lance Mitchell, Chijoke Onyonogeche, Donte Nicholson, Phil Loadholt, Josh Heupel, Torrence Marshall... This year we have certain needs for plug and play players. Sometimes they pan out sometimes they don't. If they do as in the players I mentioned it can be the difference between 9-3 and 11-1 or 12-0. The difference with KState is the majority of the high school talent they get are lightly recruited 2 or 3 stars and thats not to say that I put a ton of stock in recruiting services. JUCO players if selected carefully can be a huge boost (See Damien Williams this year). Damien had a ton of offers out of high school and was a better player than Clay without a doubt. (Both from SD) He just did not have the grades to go straight to a big program.

Signing 3 JUCO in a single year does not equal becoming KSU.

We're not as well-coached

When you don't do the SEC one year try outs going JUCO for your talent makes a lot of sense.

I wonder if USC would take our 3 jucos?

I just hope we evolve into ksu when it comes to qb philosophy.
Hell, even ol' high-and-mighty Mack is scrambling for JUCOs this year.
We relied on JUCOs a bit in the early 00s for some positions. But we have to see relying on JUCOs as a consistent recent trend to say that. We really haven't had a ton of JUCOs in recent years. Cameron Kenney was one a few years ago. That's really about it.

Stoops has always recruited JUCO players in signed two in 2002 (Mitchell and Jackson), two in 2003 (Roberts and Nicholson), two in 2004 (Ayodele and Onyenegecha), three in 2005 (Ah You, Keith and Patrick), four in 2006 (Halzle, Johnson, Moore and Walker), one in 2007 (Loadholt), three in 2008 (Balogun, Bryant and Sims), three in 2009 (Jefferies, Vinson and Kenney), zero in 2010, zero in 2011, four in 2012 (Bester, Green, Nelson and Williams) and three to date in 2013 (Barnett, Russell and St. John) for a total of 27 in 12 seasons for an average of 2.25 per season.
So no OU is not transforming its recruting to that of KSU which normally signs 6-10 JUCO players annually. Stoops is merely filling needs via JUCO as he has done in the past because he cannot afford to wait on the maturation of freshmen to meet his needs for 2013.

K-State 2012 = OSU 2011
Once in a lifetime dream season
OU will "rely" on what's available in meeting their needs, period.
OU was in the running for a BCS bowl the last 10 years--and likely will for the next 10 years. KSU was this year b/c they beat us--that's the only reason. They weren't for the last 10 and won't be for the next 10. The comparison is goofy. If we get to a place where we're looking at beating KSU to have a shot at the BCS, then I'll consider us being on the level they are right now.
I realize you aren't but in your early 20's but K-State went 81-17-1 from 1993-2000. That is an 82% winning percentage. During that time they had 4 straight 11 win seasons at the tail end and won no less than 9 games in the other four seasons.
That old goat has a system and it works for him. He has them back again so the JUCO/transfer method of Snyder is legit.

I know if I was a kstate fan I'd be excited about their 2nd conference championship in the modern era...
This thread is full of fail. We didn't even sign 3 JUCO lineman.
I honestly don't care who we sign. They aren't relevant till they actually play a down at OU.

Signed a Juco Kicker..? Can he play line? As long as we have at least 3 Kickers on scholly we are keeping the status quo.
Barnett is a punter, signed to replace the departing Tress Way. It was a necessity to sign an immediate replacement.
No problem with that opinion but the fact of the matter is that what Snyder does is effective. He has gotten them to elite status two different times now. K-State may drop back as they did after their first run but then again they may stay relevant for a while.
Bottom line is that if OU gets JUCO players that are good then they will be no worse for the wear. Hopefully they are good. If not it could be trouble obviously.
I have keep the numbers on Stoops recruits since 2000 and over the period 2000-12 approximately 75% of his 5* recruits have been significant contributors, about 50% of his 4* recruits have been contributors while only 25% of his 3* players have made the grade. Virtually none of the 2* players have made a significant contribution.
To me that tells target as many 5* and 4* players as possible and only as many 3* and 2* players as are needed to fill the recruiting cl****.
