Why can't people just sing the damn song the way it was written? Annoys me when "artists" change the notes while singing it in order to try to make it more memorable. For me, it just ruins it. :-/ Anyone else feel that way?![]()

Because it's a crappy melody to begin with.

TOTALLY AGREE. That anthem belongs to all of us and we should be able to sing with the person performing, if we chose. Taking artistic liberty with it is rude, IMO.

Uniball Minimega must be 75 years old. Next thing you know he will tell me I can't yell Sooners at the end of it.

Much better than Christina Aguilara's abortion a couple of Super Bowls ago.
I concur, sing it as its written. It makes it damn tough to sing along when its all "artistic."
I'll sing it how I want and I have done it that way, did it in a completely different melody once when the Hornets were in OKC. Get sick of people telling me what I should and shouldn't do with the anthem. You want it sung according to the sheet music, get up and sing it that way yourself.
This is Amerika, ****es. Sing the song the way I want it to be sung, damn it.

Here's a little heads up - no one outside of Carl Lewis and Roseanne Barr appreciates your creative license when it comes to the Star Spangled Banner. Likesaid, the anthem is not about you, the individual singing it, it's about something much bigger. Anytime I've been in the stands or watching a game with friends and the singer tries to put their creative twist on our anthem, the stadium/room lets out a collective groan. Just stop...
Look at me! Look at me! If you can sing well, you don't need to change it. Compensating is what its called, I believe.
Nope, we have the prerogative to sing it as we wish. Ever heard Amazing Grace to the music of House of the Rising Sun? Completely gorgeous, and of course the lyrics are still the same, but for me it loses something. I'm not necessarily a traditionalist, but there are some songs that just should not messed with, IMO.

wait, people actually give a **** about this?
You do have the right to change it, you also have the ability to be a ****stick, which you've proven you're good at doing.
Everyone else has the right to let you know that you are indeed a ****stick, and that your version of the anthem sucks. Obviously, I dont know for sure that it sucks, but since you're a ****stick I consider it a safe ****umption that it does. Most of the **** performed by ****sticks usually sucks... ****stick.

I was a bit wasty and watching the game at my brothers house. At halftime I dragged my wife into their bathroom and just started humping. It was loud and was a bit awkward going back to watch the game while getting silently judged by my brothers churchy **** wife. By the 4th quarter we went back in and did it again. That was enough to knock up the wife....
That was the last game I watched at his house until the 2008 orange bowl against Florida. I went to use their bathroom then and his wife cracked, "you're going by yourself? Looks like I won't have to bleach the entire bathroom again." I saw one of their kids training pottys next to the toilet and left a huge greasy pile in it out of spite.
We've not been invited back for any games since.
**** Ashlee Simpson...

Here's the only time I've ever liked someone changing things up a bit, & even then, with the way he does it it's still easy to follow along with:
Please explain to me why we need the national anthem sung at sporting events anyway.

As long as they say "Home of the Sooners" at the end, I don't care how they sing it.

To the Sing it as Written crowd: We dont actually sing the poem as written. Several stanzas are left out of the song from the original poem.
O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oooooh burn.
I stand corrected. I sing the first verse in the traditional way.
Where was the outrage when Celine Dion butchered AC/DC?

Where was the outrage when Bieber sang an AC/DC song and it sounded better according to you Minimega.
