The Beavers don't attract anywhere near the talent level of programs like Texas. Or USC, or Stanford, or anyone else in the PAC-12 really; yet he has consistently beaten those programs both on the road and at home. You can't just select one game and use it to sum up a guys whole career, lol.

Their cl**** rankings over the last 4 years have been 52, 54, 44, 55 and they currently have the 53rd ranked cl**** and only 1 4 star recruit committed. To win as consistently as he has despite the gap in talent is impressive.

I would thoroughly enjoy seeing what Mike could do with the talent OU can attract.

We're talking about a game against a pretty bad tex**** team-a team that was VERY lucky to beat an awful Kansas team in the last minute. OSU had that game won easily, but their coach made some very bad decisions. I wasn't impressed at all by Riley in that game.

The REAL problem some of you are having with my comments about Riley is that you are using this thread as another pathetic attempt to bash Stoops.

I'd prefer a younger guy - someone around 40-45. Also, I don't know anything about his recruiting ability since his been in the pro game so long now. But most people thought the same thing about Pete Carroll when he was hired by SC.

Don't understand the love for Gruden. I think he's overhyped.

Game strategy/management is most visible to fans, but I've come to believe that it's really not that important. Coaches are measured in wins and losses, and clock management or pulling a pitcher isn't pretty far down the list in terms of contributing to wins and losses. I've watched about 7 Wisconsin games under Bielema, and he managed the clock horribly in many of them. Granted, it probably did contribute to a loss in one of them (vs. MSU, I think), but he won enough that being a total zero in in-game strategy still didn't mean he wasn't a good coach.

Granted, it's frustrating that I had a better grasp of clock management as a 9 year old than most coaches do today. Then again, I probably played 10x the Madden games that those guys coached.

I think kids would like to play for him. I'm 26 but if I was 18-21 playing D-1 football, I'd be pretty amped if he was my coach.

****uming we don't just hire either Josh Heupel or Mike Stoops...

I don't think we can get Shaw, Sumlin, Petersen, or Pat Fitzgerald. Those guys are well paid and/or at their dream job.

I doubt we could get Briles or Patterson. Those guys are a Big 12 title away from having stadiums named after them. Also well paid with great facilities where they are.

Charlie Strong would probably be a good coach. I'm sure he'd build a staff with some Texas ties, to supplement his Florida recruiting pipelines. But I'm uncomfortable with ever hiring another football coach from Louisville.

Guys I think we would call:

Dan Mullen, RichRod, Todd Graham, Tim DeRuyter, Jim Mora, Jr., and if I wanted to take a swing at a big name guy, I'd see if Mark Richt or Jimbo Fisher were 100% happy at their current job.

I'm just going to hope Bob sticks around a few more years until the list of potential candidates looks a lot better.

If OU ever hired Dan Mullen...
