That hit was so good they interrupted the game I was watching to show it. The announcer gave the professional broadcast version of "holy **** guys, you gotta see this hit by Clowney" as he cut in. Good stuff.
Anyone else confused on why it wasn't "targeting"? I hate the new targeting rules. I never know when a hit is great or illegal. To me, it looked like he put his helmet on the RB's chin.
What's unbelievable is the coaching staff running this play asking the right guard to pull and block this beast before he kills the running back. .

Its pretty remarkable to think that this guy is only a true sophomore. I feel bad for the o linemen that have to go up against him now, imagine how ****ty it must have been to block him in high school.

No, Clowney is not the AD of defense. He was getting his **** beat for the significant majority of the game by Michigan's left tackle. On this play, Clowney is supposed to be picked up by the pulling guard. I saw a guy do this exact same thing in high school. If the playside DE on a counter trap reads the play quickly enough (he has to see the playside offensive tackle diving down to combo the playside DT, AND see the play develop in the backfield), he basically just needs to make a beeline for the RB.

Dude is athletic and fast and has probably 60 lbs on the RB. Since he wasn't blocked, that was kind of inevitable.

That's certainly inaccurate.
No it's not. He's not a defenseless receiver. A running back in the open field can be hit square in the head legally.

You think so? That looked really close to just under the chin and more on the chest. If the RB strapped his helmet on right I don't think it looks so bad.

The fact that he picked up the fumble with one hand and tried to run with it shows how freaky of an athlete he is...most guys just hit hard he actually played through the play

Yes, definitely a fine only reason his helmet came off was because he hit him with his helmet right under his chin in an upward motion. That's still helmet to helmet.
Technically a decapitated head can be alive and conscious, up to 30 seconds after it leaves the body. So.... yeah.
