Illinois Bill to Ban "Modern" Firearms

Hopefully this isn't true and if it is, it doesn't pass

    http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...dern-firearms/

    Press release:
“The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton [above] will introduce a so called ‘assault weapons’ ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its ‘lame duck’ session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police . . .

“Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called ‘assault weapons’ but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution.”
TTAG’s sources tell us there will be two bills: one for semi-automatic rifles, lever guns, shotguns and handguns with certain features (e.g., threaded barrels); and one for ammunition magazine capacity.
Mags would be limited to 10 rounds and owners of existing magazines holding more than 10 rounds would have to register them with the state police.
One [non-ISRA] gun guy on the front lines in the Land of Lincoln tells TTAG that the odds of the bills going through are 50 – 50. He advises gun owners both in and out of state to call Senate President Cullerton at 217 782 2000 and/or find another legislator to pester at ilga.gov.
“If gun owners around the country melt the phone lines in the next three days we can push this thing back . . . that would be a tremendous morale boost ahead of federal legislation.”

That shitbag lives in a fantasy world. Especially considering a Federal Court recently struck down Illinois concealed carry ban.

I also wondered who the first would be to try confiscation. Illinois wins a never to be visited award from me.

And how do they think this will cut down on criminals having firearms?

So, Chicago will become more of a shithole with more crime.

Just a waste of taxpayers money. Even if the bill is passed it will go,to,court and get struck down costing the taxpayers to have to fight an idiotic bill introduced by an idiot.

Illinois shouldn't look at enacting a ban, rather they should try to find a far more reasonable set of criterion for gun ownership. This is the only way for a state to enact tougher gun laws.

gun laws don't get much tougher than what Illinois already has. Seems to working just fine for Chicago and the murder rate.

if current/past gun laws haven't proven it....this one wouldn't either...
but as i said...it would never become law...so it won't have a chance to prove anything...
would you seriously be ok with a law that is unconstitutional....to prove a point?

By the 10th, they probably should be allowed to. The 2nd is speaking to the Feds, not the states.

Yeah this is just a nut taking his side of the debate too far. Don't see this getting too far.

Also, Illinois can do as they please. They have a right as a state to make their own laws.

I would like to see an actual poll on that cause I doubt that totally.
But I think most people wouldn't care for some tougher stance on assault type guns. Not the shit from this idiot that is absurd.

As far as Illinois, I don't care what they do. That crap will never fly anyways.

I've been living in central Illinois for about a year now, and I've found that the people here, most of whom are pretty much your average redneck types, really hate Chicago and the amount of influence that city has on the politics and policies for the rest of the state.

Tougher gun laws is too vague to be valid. Specify.

On Illinois I agree, though I don't think SCOTUS will. It seems the Bill of Rights is only 9 long.

Specifically surrounding the acquisition of guns. Closing the gun show loophole. Tougher back ground checks to insure that the guns are not being purchased by the wrong people.

Basically trying to insure that everyone buying a gun is capable of owning the gun responsibly.

I am not apposed to tougher gun purchase laws but that would not have stopped the latest school shooting...I would imagine most school shooters are underage...

There may be no better way to turn a dark blue state purple than by passing confiscatory gun laws. Especially a state with a large hunting population.

Exactly. They wouldn't eliminate the right to bear arms, just which arms you can bear.

This. Let's stop saying "ban guns" no one can do that nor have they tried. It creates a false dilemma and allows people to easily wrap them selves in the constitution.

I know no one who is advocating seizing legally purchased guns from completely competent citizens.

What is really amusing is that the two posters who liked this post constantly call other people on this board with different opinions all kinds of names. I highly doubt you have a problem with that though.

Back to your post, yes people who support "this bill" are pansies. That is not what you just posted. This isn't gun control. This bill was pure stupidity by a pansy.

For the record I have no problem with banning or making assault type rifles harder to get. Or even getting rid of 30 round clips.
