OKC Thunder Thunder is number 1 in the NBA in Local TV Ratings

    http://newsok.com/media-notebook-okl...lick=columnist
Just as the Chesapeake Energy Arena is generally considered the loudest arena in the NBA, Oklahoma City Thunder fans have placed the Thunder No. 1 in local TV ratings. The Thunder is averaging a 7.9 household rating in Oklahoma City through 26 games on Fox Sports Oklahoma and is the top-rated NBA team on any regional sports network, well ahead of the Miami Heat (5.8 average on Sun Sports) and San Antonio Spurs (5.7 on Fox Sports Southwest).
The Nov. 28 game vs. Houston Rockets averaged a 13.6 and is the highest-rated NBA game on any Fox Sports regional network this season. ABC's Heat-Thunder telecast on Christmas Day set a Thunder regular-season record with a 23.3.
Thanks to the strong Thunder ratings, since the start of the NBA season, FSOK has been the highest-rated cable network in Oklahoma City in prime time.

Pretty impressive... Hopefully this means more money in TV contracts in the future.

Probably not...Unless OKC's population spikes to 2 Million over night.

Why is 2 million the magic number?

Obviously the local population does not need to grow for OKC to get better TV contracts. OKC is #1 already with its current population. What has to increase for OKC to get better future TV contracts is for the Thunder brand to continue to grow nationally. The Thunder are very popular nationally because Durant and Westbrook are favorites of many people. I think it will continue to grow and the Thunder will see more revenue form TV contracts.

OKC is #1 in the ratings, which is good, but doesn't necessarily translate to more dollars. There just aren't that many TV's in Okahoma compared to other places.

I don't imagine it is any sort of magic number. I mean, really every extra household that purchases cable/satellite/dish is more money for the future TV contract, and it will help a little. But the point is that OKC likely needs to be significantly more populated for high ratings to translate to significantly more dollars.

Somewhere on Owen Field, someone is pissed off at this news because in their mind, there's no room in Oklahoma for anything except OU football.

Some of those beer breath mouth breathers genuinely get their feelin's hurt. It's ****ing hilarious.
