    Layoffs at SD...Shitty Day

SandRidge Energy is laying folks off today. Well over 30 people have been let go, including my wife. They are just systematically moving throughout the buildings, letting people know. Managers say they are given zero warning. None of the people let go today had any idea it was about to happen. Ugh.

That sucks. Very sorry for your wife.

A guy two doors down from me is married to someone in their accounting department.

Zero warning always sucks. Is there some sort of severance? At least when I worked at Lucent we pretty much knew it was coming and got six months pay/benefits.

Is she by any chance related to Bob(Stoops)? If so she has nothing to worry, she'll be coaching D Line come next Monday. Previous experience or knowledge of job not required.

It takes some pretty big balls to lay off the wife of a LT mod. Things are about to get interesting.

So, judging by the threads today we show mostly respect for death of close friends, not death in general but when a spouse gets laid off its a shit storm. Quality.

    Sorry to hear this news.
SD stock traded up 3.66 % today…. I wonder why..?

It’s a fact that Obamacare has caused lots of staff reductions and or reduced work hours and that we will see a lot more.

Thanks for all the well wishes and kind words. I'll try to answer everything.
Yes, she was given a severance package.
She was in the EHS dept.
    No, you cannot have pictures.
Thanks for the offer, DM. You have such a big heart.
No, JH doesn't work there, but a notable former bball player does.
And as far as Obama being the cause...I don't think so, but I could be wrong. We recently sold our interest in the Permian, prompting a pretty substantial (60+ and counting) reorganization. She just didn't survive for whatever reason.
She has a really good line on a couple places, so she should be good.

Sorry drumhead. They are coming here too, I have a job interview with a small software group soon. Obama didn't cause either of our companies to take on massive debt.

EHS as in Environmental Health Services or Environmental Health and Safety?

    Re: Layoffs at SD...Shitty Day

Weird. I just saw a commercial for Sandridge a couple of days ago. Can't remember ever having seen one before. It featured some guy talking about how they were such a great company to work for.

    Sounds like she'll rebound quickly.

Yeah, Environmental Health & Safety. It is a great place to work the benefits, pay, and little extras are outstanding...it's just a matter of staying there. Rumor is that my division is up today.

Oh really -- it's "fact" is it? Give me a break.

The SD reductions have nothing to do with Obamacare. They are happening because nat gas prices have been hovering around $3 for the past 3 years.

Yes. But it is much easier to blame an aloof technocrat with no real power than the guy who has been paying your wages for 10 years.

Does anyone have an idea as to what the starting salary is for EHS department folks, say Environmental Scientists with a masters at O/G places in OK is? PM would work great, if you'd prefer. Thanks!
