What Alabama has done is great and all, but:
If OSU makes a field goal, they don't play for a title in 11. If Oregon doesn't flub it up against Stanford, they don't play for a title in 12. If Texas A&M kicks a field goal against Florida or scores another TD against LSU, they don't play for a title in 12 as A&M wins the West (KSU got beat too bad by Baylor to argue for a reversal of that fortune). If Les Miles didn't pull a stupid against Bama, then Bama finishes with 2 losses. If Colt McCoy doesn't get injured in 09 title game, maybe Bama still wins, maybe not, but no guarantee they would.
They have done a great job in beating the games in front of them--lord knows we've had opportunities but screwed it up (couldn't beat Tech in 07, couldn't beat Florida in 08, couldn't beat LSU after losing 28 points in Big 12 title game in 03), but they have been FORTUNATE...it's not like Nebraska going undefeated 3 out of 4 seasons, Bama has needed help to win all 3 titles--injuries and so and so beating such and such to overcome a regular season loss. You want to say they have taken advantage of their luck--so be it. But luck is the critical variable that allows them the opportunity to take home these titles.
