I have always wanted one and I am finally down to two different ones. I have done a lot of research on them and I think they are great to have around.
Do any of you have one?

Yeah, you are going to LOVE all that ****ing dog hair shedding all the time. If you lived up north I'd say go for it. Florida though?

My roommate in college had one. If you don't have a lot of space for the dog to run, and free time to discipline the dog... You're gonna have a bad time.
Positives are... The dogs are beautiful, loyal, and very friendly.
Is that like a Rusty Trombone or something?

I am also wondering about a winter breed in the tropics. That dog is not going to be very comfortable. Is there a similar breed you can opt for that will fare better in the FL climate? Just something to consider.
My parents have one here in OK, in fact they have owned 3 of them. They all shed. ALL.THE.TIME!
I've talked to plenty of breeders and they all say that huskies are fine in Florida. In northwest florida, it gets down to freezing in the winter. Summers are warm, but they have a dual coat and the undercoat sheds so they are fine here.
Will definitely be brushing her once a day.

My ex has one. Two things: they shed and you will fall in love with it. Very loyal, fun, loving dogs. Make sure to brush daily

I had one for about a year. It was a red one - absolutely beautiful. She needed room to run - not an apartment dog. We went through some training but they are very smart and will behave. It's not like they're a Lab or a Jack Russel or something. Invest in a furmenator off Amazon. You'll thank me later. When I had to give mine up I gave her to someone that had a farm. She was a great dog for them for over 12 years.
Real ****ing selfish of you to get a Siberian Husky in Florida nolesooner, real ****ing selfish...
There are several Huskies that show up at the dog park here in Tulsa... and they all tend to pack up and play together. No interest in the other breeds at all, and if an outsider does try to join the fun, they usually gang up and run it out of the group. They seem very racist. Tolerant but very exclusionary.

Maybe Nole should get a husky Siberian instead?

we got a rescue that has a good amount of husky in him. He makes weird noises. He is also an escaper so be careful, ours climbs over fences.
Will you also cuss at him on a message board when you're drunk?

Never had a husky, beautiful animal. I'm a cane corso guy when it comes to dogs.

We have a sable/white husky named Rocky, he is 12 now. Very loyal and protective, as others have stated they will shed all year round, and are roamers if you don't keep them well fenced in. We live out in the country and still have to keep him fenced in, granted our fenced in portion of our place is about 2 acres, you really need alot of space as they love to run.

My ad at the bottom of the page is about training a Huskie.
You, boy? It will be you who at last becomes Friend to Beast? You who ultimately tames the vicious instinct to Kill? This is your belief?
When you come crashing down from your pillar of Vanity, I hope to watch.

Mine is the most loving dog I've ever had. You might consider getting two of them or another breed of a dog so the Husky will have a playmate. Otherwise she will drive you nuts. And I had to hot wire my fence to keep her in. It works very well. They will shed year round though. You will have to do everything possible to keep the dog cool in the summer. It's miserable for them. Lots of cool drinking water will help.

Everything I have read says you are not supposed to cut their fur like that.

They say it does more harm in the summer. Something about the double coat cooling them some. I admit I'm no expert though.
http://www.sibrescue.com/tip-shave.html
Because double coated dogs have two types of hairs- soft, short, insulating inner coat, and long, coarse weatherproof outer coat. They grow at different rates- the inner coat is shed once (or twice in some dogs, like intact females) a year and it mostly all comes out at once. (Blowing coat, I'm sure you've seen it.) The outer coat does NOT all fall out and grow back at once- individual hairs may last as long as several years.
The problem when you shave a dog is that BOTH kinds of hairs are cut. The inner coat will grow in faster than the outer coat, and without the outer coat protecting it, it will get matted and lose its softness. Without the outer coat hairs to give it structure, the coat just doesn't lie right either.
Shaving a dog can lead to a cycle that repeats itself- shave the dog because it's matted, but shaving leads to even worse matting in the future, so you have to keep doing it.
