They need to drop the far right element that is holding them back on social issues and focus on their (supposed) strength which is fiscal responsibility.
In short, they need to just focus on Libertarian principles. They can still call it Republican if need be, but dump the baggage.
I don't know how you drop the far right...I don't know if you want to outwardly drop the far right...but ignoring them would be fine or just give them lip service like the dems do to their fringers. I would be happy with most social issues being removed from the political arena.
They were facing that choice with Romney to some degree...and a Mormon to boot. Of course, if you can throw Barack or Hillary at them they are still going to vote pub. The Roe vs Wade cuts about 50/50 in the public but it is always used as a litmus test by both parties on national elections. Religion in schools I could live without including ID. Beyond those issues I can't think of where the far right is harming the party with moderates.
Social issues are more emotional than economic.
E.g.- I love Coburn's economics. But I just can't imagine 100% liking the guy based on his fairly extreme views on abortion. I loved Paul Ryan until I heard about how cruel his views were on women's rights and **** marriages.
Listen, when it comes down to it- there are a lot of people out there that don't want to vote for people that clearly and vigorously dislike other groups of people.
No one said we couldnt, idiot. I said economic freedom FIRST.... as in it has precedence. You dont sabotage your economy back to the stone age with an anti-business, anti-prosperity, anti-american moon bat administration so that you can feel good about ****s being able to get married.
