The sad thing is there is nothing we can do but sit around and hope it gets fixed. Even if there was a m**** exodus in Washington thanks to the voters the people who would replace them wouldn't change a thing.

Hard work has nothing to do with luck and fortune. Hard work is hard work. You get what you earn.

It's bull**** that you get penalized more for being successful and making more money. It should be fair and even across the board.

Didn't realize that! Thanks for the heads-up. Thought that it meant tax-rates were going up by 25% compared to 2012.

In fact if you compare the tax tables from last year to this year you can actually make a little more this year and stay in the lower tax bracket.

How in the world people can be okay with taxes going to a group that's as wasteful and ineffective as our government is beyond me. It's like we've got a dead beat uncle that keeps borrowing more and more money from you and spending it at the casino. Oh, and then he comes over on Easter and calls you a loser for being successful and says you aren't doing your part.

If the people spending the tax money were actually trying to do what you say, I'd agree. I simply don't believe most of them are. You're much more optimistic than I am about the intent of the people wasting our money.

I guess so. Especially when compared to the governments of all of the other economic powers of the world.

I refuse to live in fear of the government...better to be a subject of Nero than a disciple of Kaczynski.

you guys do realize that if a person is in a higher tax bracket, it does not pertain to the total gross income, but only the portion that falls in that bracket....right?? No one pays 40% of their entire gross......

Yeah, I believe most know that (at least in this thread).

I didn't know that for a long **** time though. But that as when I was only in a single bracket anyhow.

So you're getting F'ed a little less hard than people in other countries, news flash you're still getting F'ed!

It's not so much the percentage I pay its the fact that the money goes to deadbeat dirt heads, wasted on some stupid grants for nonsense, or wasted 100,000 other ways.

I have no problem with helping the needy, but a majority of the entitlement money goes to people scamming the system, sometimes for generations.

The entire tax system needs to be scraped and redesigned to be fair for EVERYONE!

I don't see the reasoning for comparing the U.S. to other countries. I don't care how messed up other countries are. Just saying we are less messed up doesn't negate the fact that we are messed up now does it?? This is how children reason. "It's not fair, he has more than me!" "His toy is better than mine!" "It's not fair they get to do that and I don't!" "I don't get something, so they shouldn't either!" "If I cant have it, no one can!" "It's okay we're messed up, so are they!"

It seems to me that your above line of thinking is far more childlike than mine. Ignoring world data and setting some practically unobtainable criterion for a harmonious governmental/economic relationship is a fairly sophomoric venture.

    In layman's terms:
"If it's so great, why ain't everybody doin' it?"

Perhaps b/c it requires a smaller government and less power for those in power to function properly? If history has taught us anything, those with power rarely want to give it up.

When our system of government was put in place, it went counter to everything else going on at the time as well. And honestly, if what you've advocated worked so well, why are the countries trying to do it going bankrupt?

Because while we have made strides to eliminate it, opportunity is not yet equal. Inequal opportunity leads to inequal compensation. Inequal compensation leads to inequal wealth. Inequal wealth leads to inequal burden.

In order to share the burden (fair) an inequal tax is therefore required.

Just like those opposite my view find our current economic woes linked to an impure implementation and ****ization, I find the same fallabilities have weakened social economies.

That's the biggest load of horse $h!t I've ever read.
A unequal tax isn't fair in any way, and definitely not based on fairness.

It's based more on envy, greed and jealousy more than fairness.

A fair tax would be, do away with all the current state and federal income tax, and put in place a sales tax that would cover local, state, and federal. Exempt food, medicine, and the 3 base utilities (electricity, gas, water).

Then all people would pay tax on would be non essential items.
You would get 100% of your paycheck.
If you made no purchases that weren't a necessity you would pay very little tax.

This kind of tax would also tax a lot of people not currently paying taxes. For example criminals who pay no tax on their illegal income now would pay taxes. Now non citizens would pay taxes on non essential purchases. Any person that currently cheats the current tax system with loopholes etc would now be paying taxes.

With this kind of system the more you buy the more tax you pay. Don't buy things don't pay taxes. Buy a $250,000 diamond ring for your wife, you pay a percentage in tax just like the current sales tax. Buy a $2500 ring pay the tax, buy a $250 ring pay the tax. It scales to your income level...fairly.
