Multiple people have been shot at a north Harris County college, and a second suspect may be on the loose, Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables said.
Investigators said the shooting happened at Lone Star College's North Harris campus, 2700 West W. W. Thorne Drive near Aldine Westfield shortly after noon on Tuesday.
Officials have not said exactly how many people have been shot or the extent of their injuries. Ben Taub Hospital said it was expecting two patients. Memorial Hermann Hospital said one person was transported by ambulance.
Deputy constables said they have at least one person detained, but have not said if that person is a suspected shooter.
Investigators said a second suspect, an 18- to 20-year-old black male wearing a red shirt and Falcons cap, fled north of campus to a nearby subdivision. Deputies are actively searching for him.
Armed Harris County sheriff's deputies searched buildings and vehicles for anyone who may be involved in the shooting.
" I was waiting for my English cl**** to start. It was five minutes before cl**** and all of a sudden, I heard shots fired and people started rushing in the hallway. A few students even came in to our room seeking shelter and we closed the door and we pushed the table against the door and we were hiding ," student Amanda Vasquez said. "You never think this is going to happen to you."
Vasquez said the shots seem to be fired in her classroom's hallway.
"They sounded very close -- the shots. (We heard) five or six gunshots," Vasquez said.
Some students said two men were involved in a dispute and both pulled at guns and began firing at each other. Law enforcement officials have not confirmed those accounts.
A shelter-in-place was ordered at the college. Students, faculty and staff were told to stay where they are.
Aldine Independent School District officials said four nearby campuses, Dunn Elementary, Parker Intermediate, Nimitz 9th grade campus and Nimitz High, were placed on lockdown as a precaution. School district officials said there is no reason to believe a shooter is on any of those campuses, but the lockdown was issued for precautionary measures.

It's sad to think how dangerous this nation is getting. I mean, students can't even go to cl**** without being in serious danger... Stuff like this can happen anywhere. That is the scariest part about it

Another shooting staged by Obama to get guns out of our hands? Wow, the man just won't quit until he's won.

Can we get a bump when you hear about a shooting thread?
One of these days, life will imitate art and give us a real version of The Chase. Then our eyes will be open.
Said he was wearing a Falcons hat, probably aimed at a 49ers fan.
Is that accurate? I saw some stuff that showed that things like gun fatalities are down sharply, but that's more due to medical advances saving people than it being less shootings. There are more acts of aggression now than there were, we're just better at keeping people alive.

Not sure; I have some friends that are cops and they always talk about the facts and figures that come out here in Dallas and how that can be manipulated by what they finally write it up as. I'm sure when it comes to violent crimes that can't happen as easily. It's more when you see "Crime down in 2013" and talking in general I guess.
He should have just turned his pitbull loose on the guy.
Yea a number of years ago I took a cl**** at another campus of the same CC(Lone Star) but had to go to get my book for the cl**** I was taking at that North Harris campus ...
Let me just say that despite Lone Star CC having 8 or so locations/Campuses in the greater Houston area as soon as I heard there was a shooting at one of their campuses I immediately knew it must have occurred at the N.Harris location ... Not a great area to say the least
A visit to that campus would be similar to a visit to the infamous "Chicken Hut" without the possible reward of outstanding fried chicken...

It seems like a bastion of higher learning. I heard a quote from the president of the school. He said "Our police was on the scene immediately".

One of the better videos I've seen on this subject in quite awhile. What I found interesting is he never took a stance of pro or anti gun. He just pointed out where the problems were. Amazing what a little logic can do.
Edit: I wish I hadn't clicked on his YouTube channel to see all his Sandy Hoax video crap
