As far as specifics, I think it's a bit unfair to say that m**** transit is the catalyst to becoming a big-time city, especially considering that most people understand that m**** transit - at least in the forms we usually see it in in places like Chicago, Portland, NY, etc. - is virtually impossible due to the massive urban sprawl.

In all, I see a lot of people faulting OKC for things that are impossible to change. We don't have mountains, not real ones, anyway. We're never going to have beaches. Matter of fact, the vast majority of states in the US don't have them. Does that make them inferior places to live? Of course not. OKC is making huge strides on the things that can be changed, though. As for the bits about the Thunder, the fact it's highlighted so much is more an indictment on the rest of the country than it is us. It's not our fault people are simple enough to say "they have pro basketball, they must be legit now". The chamber is just smart enough to play that card that's been made so appealing by TNT and Disney.

I am perfectly happy to raise my kid here, and I have plenty to do. I can go visit Denver, LA, Philly, Chicago, wherever if the desire so strikes me. I guess bottom line is that I love it here. If you don't...tough ****.
I'm actually really rooting for OKC in a big way, but you all have got to put a stop to Mick Cornett and his Copa Cabana boys turning OKC into Branson. By the way, OKC is closer to better outdoors activity than Dallas and that's not really a contest. Can't use that as an excuse. The Wichita Mountains are 90 minutes from OKC and they are just as nice as the Austin Hill Country, if not nicer. No excuse there.

What I meant by that is some people aren't going to give any credit to OK's natural activities because they're not on the coast or they're not in the Rockies. I personally don't do a whole lot of outdoorsy type stuff, so what we have here is more than adequate. I somewhat agree on the Branson deal, but after a while you kind of get used to the fact that we're still governed by people that don't necessarily represent what we want very well.

In all seriousness, I am actually a big proponent of OKC's progression and I am harsh on OKC because quite honestly, OKC's leadership is creating infrastructure and attractions that their old ****es want to see, not what is going to attract young folks. Cities grow culture, develop an identity and thrive based on their youth. Oklahoma has a big problem: kids graduate from college there and they want to bounce the state ASAP. I'm a product of that. I left OKC for Denver because quite honestly? Bricktown sucks. ****'o'Walk and the Western bars get old and there is nothing outdoorsy about OKC. I want that to change and this is a pivotal time for OKC. But, Cornett and his cronies have got to stop trying to make OKC into Branson and become more progressive. OKC has got to stop trying to prove to everyone that it is awesome and just be itself. I've always said, "OKC wants to be Dallas and Tulsa wants to be ... ummmmm ... Austin?" Point is, gotta let the culture create itself and the old guard of OKC needs to be pushed out the door. OKC is just too traditional and there is absolutely nothing unique or quarky about OKC.

Those are my two Kelly Ogles. Sorry if I have offended anyone.

you didn't watch the video did you? The barely even touched on the Thunder. I was surprised. It was obvious that they didn't want to make it sound all about the Thunder.

IMO the things you're speaking of really isn't up to the city government to create. They've revamped the downtown/midtown area and infrastructure but it's up to entrepreneurs to create the businesses that define that area. We're starting to see that but it's still in its infancy.
