Are they local? To me they are only as funny as the material written for them. So for me it's most times yes, sometimes no. It would seem that there is only so much you can do with a skit like that. I'm impressed they've kept it relevant for as long as they have. /thread.
I like some of the commercials. I still laugh at the one where I think it's Pete offering to buy TJ's drink and that makes them 'even'. TJ reminds him he loaned him quite a bit of money ($1k or $10k, don't remember) and Pete says "oh yeah, well get some fries, too".

Yep, I think they're funny. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
As I understand it, it's all improv.
They put them in a car, start rolling the cameras, and say, "talk about chili cheese conies," or whatever the item du jour is.
Or at least that's how they used to do it. Not sure how much has changed since Sonic inexplicably went away from that campaign and then back to it.
And yes, it's usually funny, and incredibly successful.

I liked when TJ said if he had a time machine he would go back and make a move on Pete's woman. Pete said "whoa, thats my wife" and Tj responds, "she wouldn't be now."

Being in a long running commercial series is good work if you can get it.
I just found the premise of two dudes who hang out in a Sonic parking lot to be a little pathetic.
But then I realized that I frequent an Internet message board. And I got over it.

They're hit and miss. Majority of them are funny but there are some really bad flops.
It makes more sense and more fun to watch knowing (or thinking) that they're improv. That's kinda cool.

We had the head PR lady from Sonic speak in a cl**** of mine when I was at OU and she said when they got tired and ready to go, they would start cussing up a storm and would be done for the day.

Thanks for the input. I've always found these guys fascinating.......not really "funny" as such.
Their delivery makes me anticipate "funny" but many times the buildup hints at "funny" then the punchline is either stupid or not funny at all. Which I guess is funny in and of itself.
I suppose if it is complete improv then that would expected. Saves money on writers anyway.
