I am looking at places to consider moving, at it seems Ardmore might be a good one. Its fairly close to DFW, close to Norman, and close to lakes and hiking. Anyone live there now?

Grew up there. And glad I don't still live there.
In all seriousness - it's a nice small town and retailers and restaurants have targeted it in recent years. When I was growing up there was a one screen movie theater, Wal-Mart and a Sears. It's an hour to Norman and about an hour and a half to Dallas. So a decent place if you want to kind of be in the middle and like a small town atmosphere.
A lot of rich oil folks still live there. So there's a lot of wealth. My mom lives there and has a small business (not a rich oil family sadly) and she loves it. Big proponent of the place and is active with their chamber and Main St ****ociation.
Fun thing to do in Ardmore:
1. Ask a local to direct you to a place called Magnetic Hill
2. Go and park your car at what appears to be the base of the hill, and then put your transmission in neutral
3. ????
4. Now go chase your car as it appears to roll up the hill
It looks like it has really grown recently. Seems like every time we go to Dallas something new has popped up there.
Lake Murray is the new Destin.

Ardmore - at least it's not Lone Grove
Are you single? If so, DO NOT LIVE THERE. If you're married and settled, it might not be so bad.
I grew up outside of Ardmore.
Without being too mean let me just say I never want to live there again.
Why would someone consider Ardmore when you could live in lovely Texhoma?

I live 25 miles away, grew up there, but town has really changed and not for the better. But, then again, guess all towns have changed and not for the better.
I grew up 25 miles from there as well. It has gotten better but you couldn't pay me enough money to move back to that area.
The Alley.
Tradition to stop there on way home from OU games for ****ty BBQ and cold beer at Budro's. Sometimes we get lucky if late enough to witness karaoke; it's unbelievably entertaining.
As someone who currently lives in Ardmore, let me just say...RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK! Seriously, I cannot wait to get the **** out of here. You will meet some of the worst people on earth here.
As far as small Oklahoma towns go I would put Ardmore pretty high on the list. But you have to consider the basic drawbacks of small Oklahoma towns.
Move to Springer. There's a lot going on there these days.

If had to pick, I'd choose Denison/Sherman area.
Closer to Dallas
Close enough to Norman
No State Income tax.

I find it funny that you guys say Ardmore is a small town... A small town is something like 5000 people and below. Ardmore has what close to 30,000 or 40,000 residence.

Destin is the new Lake Murray I hear.
Is Two Frogs still there?
Lived in Tulsa, Dallas, and OKC. I "dated" a girl from Ardmore. It is a small town.
For a smaller town, Ardmore's crime rate is pretty bad.

When we met, my wife lived in Denton and I lived in Norman. A lot of things happened in Ardmore. We remember Ardmore fondly.
Born & raised in area and still live here, LOL at some of the responses, can't argue with anybody , definitely not the best place in Oklahoma for single people. But my dad use to say about living down here is "If you want to see a movie we have a theater, if you get hungry we have restaraunts, if you want to buy a chevy we have a dealership, a Ford also have a dealership but if you need your Peter built .... you have to go to texas for that....
Just matters what your looking for Ardmore isn't Norman, Edmond, Jenks or Broken Arrow but like you said is close to several lakes ie fish (Murray/Texoma) the Arbuckle Mnts. several golf courses (Dornick HIlls, Winstar golf, Chickasaw Pte.) again none are Oak Tree. Maybe your one of those people that live in a city and own multiple ATV's or four wheelers and have no place to ride them, Lake Murray State Park & Arbuckle area have places to ride them, maybe you hunt good deer hunting area. Access to the I-35 corridor you can be in Norman or Denton/Lewisville in about an hour, DFW airport easy to fly in and out of, Dallas area sporting venues for Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks easy drive then just North Owen Field / LNC and Thunder great area for a sports fan.
Don't want to start a pissing contest ie OKC/Tulsa but Ardmore is a far better area to live in Southern Oklahoma than say Durant or Duncan area which would be comparable towns. And all that really matters is where you and probably most important is where your wife will be happy to live....LOL.....
Oklahoma City. Has everything you need.
