No. 18 Kansas State vs. Oklahoma final score: Wildcats hold on for 52-50 win
James Pennington - 2013-02-03T01:07:22Z
Oklahoma Sooners guard Sam Grooms missed a three-pointer as time was expiring, and the No. 18 Kansas State Wildcats held on to win a 52-50 game Saturday on the Sooners' home court.
The Sooners never led in the game's final 30 minutes, but Kansas State never built its lead any larger than eight points. Neither team shot well in the low-scoring game; Oklahoma shot 38.8 percent to the Wildcats' 37.5 percent.
Saturday was a prime chance for Oklahoma to boost its resume with its first true quality win of the season. The Sooners are now 14-6 and 5-3 in the BIg 12, and four of their six losses are to distinguished opponents—the No. 7 Gonzaga Bulldogs, the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks, and now two to Kansas State—with the other two against the Arkansas Razorbacks and a 56-55 loss to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Dec. 18.
Will Spradling led the Wildcats with 12 points. Kansas State, which has now won two straight after losing two straight, has two more games before hitting the road on Feb. 11 to play Kansas. The Jayhawks won 59-55 in their first match-up this season.
