Pretty damn cool though we are going to get a dedicated Special Teams coach again. River Boat Gambler coming back?
I'm all for giving Jay Norvell more responsibility. He's the only ****istant coach who's been worth a damn the last few years. Hell, I'm ok with him calling the plays next year as well.

If we're going to more run heavy blah blah, then it's even more important to develop the TE position. This is yet another reason why I prefer the Christian dude from Houston. He can coach TE. He can coach ST. He's a really good recruiter. That fills 3 important needs with one position. Seems like a no brainier.

Actually an interesting idea if we don't hire someone like Christian.

Hale mentioned a new name - Derek Lewis. He is the TE coach at Florida. He is from New Orleans and went to UT. He is a Tim Brewster guy and I guess he and bob talk. I know Hale can be ****sh but he was the first to mention Montgomery so he has a good source I ****ume

Jamie Christian is a younger dude, which I think is a plus, and it seems it would be more likely to grab a coach from Houston, as opposed to Florida, unless Muschamp is just a real **** to work for or something.

  8. #808
Hale mentions Christian as the other guy he has heard about - I also this Jamie would be the best hire, but I would be ok with both. Lewis is from LA which i would love to get a recruiter that can at least try to recruit there

Would be a very solid hire if we can get him. It would also say a lot about the direction of the program to hire one guy away from Michigan and another guy away from Florida. The upside to Lewis (versus Christian) is that he might be a great lead recruiter in the southeast/Florida. Christian helps us out west, but we might not need another California guy on the staff.

I'd be happy with either guy.

Interesting article on Lewis sounds like he is pretty fiery coach

Most games, Lewis will gather the players in the locker room for a pregame speech. There are no other coaches in the room. The floor is his, and he fills it. This time, however, things got a little out of hand — literally. Overflowing with emotion and energy, Lewis put his fist through a whiteboard. The aftermath wasn’t pretty.

“I ended up slicing five of my tendons,” Lewis said.

Blood was flowing from his right hand and forearm. The team doctor wanted to take Lewis to the emergency room, but Lewis wasn’t having it.

“I said, ‘Hey man, tape the doggone thing up. Stitch it up. I’ll worry about that deal on Sunday.’ ”

Mike recruited him out of HS. looks like a smart hire, if true.

Trotter indicated on the radio (KREF) that we should keep an eye on Ryan Walters as a possibility.

Even so he indicated that it was a possibility.
We have seen coaches move in similar situations before.
It would advance his career much further than UNT.
He would be stupid to turn OU down in this situation.

  27. #827
Walters is not qualified for this position. Either Trotter misspoke or you misunderstood. This will be a ST/TE hire.

I'm sure Walters could coach the TE we don't use.

So Trotter believes a former defensive back GA who left three weeks ago for his first real coaching job is coming back to OU to be the TE/ST coach? It makes absolutely no sense in terms of the previous hires. This is all about getting a good recruiter. Walters may go on to great things, but he is not a candiate for this position.

  31. #831
Lewis, Christian, and Littrell are only candidates mentioned at this moment

If you have doubts call the RUSH for verification…. that Trotter indicated that he was a possible hire for the OU staff.
As I said I didn’t hear what the position would be. Its possible Stoops could shift other coaches around.

I'm sure it would drive everyone crazy but I think a Chuck Long hire would be okay not necessarily to coach special teams but who knows...Not like he would have to call the plays either!

Maybe this has something to do with the coaching search?

Jake Trotter‏ @ Jake_Trotter OU has moved back the start of spring practice three days.

    Will now begin March 9th.

Our Second Junior Day is that day. It may have something to do with it but I kinda doubt it at this point
