SoonerHoops: Buddy Hield (@buddyhield) sustained a fractured fifth metatarsal in right foot and will have surgery tomorrow. Expected to be out 4-6 weeks.

What a huge blow for this team. They are starting to really click and make that run for the post season. Hope for a speedy recovery. Just don't rush it.

I agree. We need more scoring from him and Cousins. Neal will need to step up and give good minutes for us as well

DAMN! DAMN, DAMN, DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!!!!!!! Well, on the bright side, both Cousins and Hornbeak have been playing pretty well lately. 4-6 weeks. Does that put him back for the Big 12 tourny or is that too soon?

    Well that sucks.
I was one of dozens at the game tonight, couldn't really see much but I was kind of hoping it was just a foot cramp or something since they didn't seem to get right on it or anything. Fracture in the foot sucks, he'll be out for a while. Really sucks its this late in the season.

You're right I guess. But he does get big shots when we need them. Really gonna miss his defense

If we are needing Neal to step up...we are in trouble. He made two 3's tonight and he looked as shocked as anyone in the arena.

****ing sucks. Kid was probably my favorite player.

Like everyone else said, others will need to step up. If it's six weeks we'll have him back for the round of sweet 16.

IMO, I don't think we're that bad off. Hield was sloppy and reckless with the ball; particularly on fast breaks and off turnovers. Most of the time, we end up giving the ball right back. I believe we're going to see much more disciplined play-running and smarter ball movement over the next 7 games.

The guy is a great defender, no doubt, but he has no discipline and lacks awareness. Frustrates the hell out of me.

At times yes he is wild but he has a lot of put back shots cause he constantly is trying to get the offensive rebound... We will miss those points.

I think you are crazy... He's our best situational rebounder and his energy and uncanny ability to get put-backs in traffic will be sorely missed.

buddy's been a little looser with the ball lately but i wouldn't call him sloppy or reckless.....
his outside shot hasn't been falling but he's just all over the freakin court doing everything he can to contribute....
he is mayhem on the defensive end...
i think we're going to miss him the most against teams like osu and baylor where we really need someone that can defend guys like smart and jackson.....
but i am really impressed with clark's play lately....so i don't think buddy's loss will hurt as bad as it could.....

I am guessing that it has to do with a Freshman benefitting from any and all PT they can get

Really I do not see a legit 2nd guess in this instance but that is just my opinion FWIW

Keep his **** rested. We're a virtual lock for the tourney at this point, so why risk it? Big 12 tourney results are NEVER factored in unless a no name wins the tourney. Brackets always seem to be decided long before the Big 12 tourney ends. Or at least certain, simple scenarios (i.e. X-team loses 1st game, they're out).

Put him on a bike or something low-pressure that can help keep his game-shape up to speed as much as possible, but don't put him in a position to reaggravate the injury.

Yeah, well he won't be anywhere near full strength if you hold him out either... I don't think he needs to be playing 30 minutes a game, but if he gets 5-10 minutes per game, it should keep him from stalling his progress health-wise while also getting him back into playing mode. I think that would be a much better way to maximize his impact for the NCAA tourney. I guess time will tell what Lon thinks. lol
