Nice stang filthy. Any reason you went with the centrifugal over a roots blower?

Why not both a muscle car and ultra performer?

Six hundred and fifty horsepower. Six hundred pound-feet of torque. Over 200 miles per hour. With specs like these, you don't need long-form introductions. This is the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500.

If I remember correctly the car worked fine. The third party electronics put into it was all kinds of ****ed up.

I built that car over 12 years ago. At that time there weren't a whole of options in regards to a roots style blower. This was of course well before Ford introduced the 03' Cobra as well. I had a ton of issues in regards tuning with the returnless fuel system. I have continued to throw parts at it, and have actually changed powerplants 3 times. So, the car has literally lived its entire life under a car cover in the garage. Its a 99 model, with a little over 2,600 original miles. Its a trailor queen in every sense of the word.

Aren't centrifugal blowers far more efficient?

Depends who you ask. Their biggest points, I'd say, are their ease of installation and tinkering and they don't get as hot.

With the roots you have power right off of idle through the entire RPM range. You do have to keep temperatures in mind however and they're a pain to work on.

Most folks I know prefer a turbo setup but it's more expensive, lots of plumbing and lots of work.

My cousin looked into doing a blown 350 about 10 years ago. He told me something about Roots systems being more parasitic in nature.

They are but they're making lighter blades and better systems to cut back on that. I'd say where you'd notice the loss of power is at peak horsepower. A centrifugal acts a little more like a turbo and peaks higher in the RPMs. I know the Ford GT at peak power loses 100 HP to its roots supercharger. Then again, roots typically push more air. A reason they can make really high torque at such low revs.

I've had a few turbo cars as well in that same time frame. I prefer them as well. As soon as the new 5 litre cars come down in money, I plan on doing a turbo coyote project. But can't justify spending $30,000+ on a car, and then add another $10,000-$12,000 in mods right away. I know there's lots of guys doing it....but Im not one of them.

A buddy of mine (who is a mechanic at a ford dealer) told me that Saleen was building the Ford GT. But one of their machines was forming a part wrong that would brake all the time. When Ford found the problem Saleen said it wasn't their fault and refused to pay for it. So Ford canceled the contract with Saleen and gave the GT to Roush. Saleen got very pissed and refuses to work on Ford cars now.

My brother had a 1965 mustang that he completely restored inside and out. He had the sears custom fabricated and done in leather.

That top gear guy is a dumbass... The first time I watched that show he was giving his ignorant opinion on the ford lightning. Ironic though that he got himself a ford after all. But if you going to get one the gt is it since it waxed all the euro cars back in the day. Merica!

They do look down their noses at American cars. Of course when he did the ZO6 he seemed to have a love-hate relationship with it.

Nice ride but dump the wheels and put on some Cragar SS...15" and they do make a 17" that would fit under that jacked up rear end...

Sold this ... was completely stock...

    Built the new race car...

I yanked the ls3, dropped in an ls7 that i sleeved. Kept the titanium rods, but rebushed them and put on a set of diamond pistons and a callies crank. A tony mamo msd intake. Did i forget the 62mm twins that sit in the brake ducts, fed by ID 1700 injectors. And some other fun hardware.

So Chip - you do all that work yourself with your own two hands? I want to supercharge my 2012 Grand Sport. Is that something you could do? How hard would that be? Places like Hennessy want $10k+ to supercharge an LS3 (includes parts.) Is that a fair deal?
