    Not really.

A run of the mill car was $500 (or 25 ounces of gold) that extrapolates to $40,000 today. Plenty of bare bones vehicles far better than those of yesteryear for half of that.

A new VW Passat for example is 37k. When you qualify with 'bare bones' it hurts your argument because you're introducing choice into the equation, which didn't exist then.

Cars today are not remotely the same things as they were back then.

How would it compare with a more stable commodity such as a loaf of bread or a pound of sugar or a gallon of milk?
I have never researched gold to that extent but I did research silver and found that an ounce of silver would buy you the same amount of bread today as it would in 1950... but a dollar? Not even close. If I remember right it was about 15 loaves for a dollar in 1950, where as today you are lucky to get 1 loaf for under 2 dollars.

Sure it did. A Cadillac was $1600 (80 ounces or just over $126,000 today) a Packard set you back twice that, and a top of the line Lozier was $7500 (375 oz or $592,125 today).

A 1200 sq foot home at that time sold for approx$4000 (200 oz of gold that's .17 ounces per square foot....today that would translate to nearly $260 per sq. foot) that would make an "average" 2000 sq ft house of today $520,000.

Loaf of bread in 1913 was .06 a gallon of milk was .32 and eggs were .30 a dozen. This equates to 3/1000 of an oz, 16/1000 of an ounce, and 15/1000 of an ounce respectively.

In today's dollars, that's $4.74 for bread, $25.28 for milk, and $23.70 for eggs.

Yeah. Nothing really has a static value over time, because utility of anything changes over time. Couple this with technology upgrades and fluctuation of demand and nearly every investment is a crap shoot.

I always thought it was the extravagant vacations on other people's money. Was it intended calling her a cow? Moo instead of mooch?

Maybe part of it is her lecturing and punishing people on what to eat and then stuffing her face with anything and everything. Moooooochelle.

I always thought it was because people thought she was fat... which she is not at all... see KC's post for reference...

Hindsight is a ****..... If we could have simply raised enough funds to offer Moooochelle + Barry a role in a Movie or TV show I really think that we could have avoided this whole thing ... As it continues to seem more and more apparent that both of them are truly DESPERATE to see themselves as some sort of quasi-celebrities ... Ugh I cannot think of too many people that I have less respect for than them currently

But even then it doesn't, she is just the first lady. It is very low brow, and demonstrates a total lack of class to call her Moochelle.

Of course it's low brow--most humor is. It made more sense to mock her for extravagance on another's dime considering everything we have been and are facing. IMO mocking someone for their weight is equivalent to a fart joke though. It bothers you more I think because you like her.

It only bothers him when it's someone he adores. If you have the stomach for it scan through his posts and look for compassion and concern for feelings.

Hey, did you know Border Patrol agents are fond of destroying the food and water caches left in the desert crossing so people don’t die of hunger and thirst? 179 people died crossing between Mexico and Arizona last year, where this happened.

Way to contribute to the deaths of innocent people, sworn officers of the American government!

Those innocent people that are breaking the law. Stay home and this isn't an issue. What's next genius - rides home for bank robbers?
