NewsOK NewsOK: Oklahoma football: Jordan Smallwood turning heads for Sooners

By Jason Kersey and Ryan Aber

Jordan Smallwood’s first season with Oklahoma ended before it began as the wide receiver from Jenks had to have foot surgery before practice began last fall.

Smallwood returned to practice during bowl preparation and has been in the mix during spring practices.

“A great start,” Sooners coach Bob Stoops answered when asked about the impression Smallwood had made so far in the spring.

An extraordinary talent pool at the RB position than the coaches bragging on the WR's blocking ability. If FUJH does not have an unstoppable running game he will have to be fired.

Oh great, another practice legend. I just know this is going to end in tears. Where in the hell is the Marvin, the manic depressive robot emoticon?

As long as we aren't waiting for his "beast mode" to emerge like we did with DeJuan Miller.

I just hope he doesn't unleash the beast like Trey Metoyer did.

What can we really expect from Smallwood? I think, IMHO, he is the X-factor on whether this offense is good or great.

X-factor might be an overstatement. I don't care who steps up at receiver as long as we can get 2 other solid options besides Sterling. As for Smallwood, he looked real good in the spring game and I can see him breaking out

The coaches don't want this info leaked out

May be an overstatement but I would love to see our offense with a big strong WR to go along with our smaller speedy WR's. Then throw in a TE that produces and we will have a scary offense to compliment our scary defense.

Need tall receivers like Bell because Trevor likes to throw high.

Durron Neal is who made me swore off trying to predict who was going to play early based solely on high school highlight videos. I really thought he was going to come in and tear it up as a true freshman and Shepard would probably redshirt. I was completely wrong so I no longer make those predictions. High school to D-1 college is a huge jump that not everyone - even the most talented prospects - can make in the first or even second year.

Having said that, I hope he strikes fear in the hearts of defenses this year.

I have a feeling that Neal this year is going to be Travis Wilson junior year type of explosion. Neal is very good, it's just the touches have been limited due to more experienced receivers. The Brown/Saunders transfers in 2012 kept him from having a big early career and last season, the running game took center stage, which was also due to erratic QB play, but that time is now.
