I grew up in Ponca City, maybe 25 miles up US177 from Stoolwater. The main thing I remember about that town is every time I went through there it smelled like manure. Last time I was there several years ago it still smelled like manure. One of my early CFB memories is seeing Gale Sayers run wild at their campus stadium - AKA Lewis Field - in a losing Aggie effort. They lost every game I went to see there back in those days, and they were always doing that really, REALLY **** arm wave to their silly fight song after every score. Fortunately it wasn't often! I was embarrassed whenever that wave started and tried to hide my face so nobody could see me. Damn the bad luck, there were never enough people there to hide behind, so I had to quit going.

ON THE OTHER HAND... My visits to Norman were like going to Heaven. Bud Wilkinson was a god, the Sooners kicked ****, and the stands were full. The fight song was great, and there was no Brokeback Pete menacing the fans, just an innocuous Native American called 'Little Red' and that man could dance! The golden cry of BOOMER! SOONER! was like an anthem from above. It was all over, I became a Sooner, and will always be a Sooner. And damn proud of it too! I have worn Crimson & Cream in all 8 states I have called home, even Tex****. I survived Gomer Jones (gasp!), Gary Gibbs, Howard the Schnel, and worst of all - John Blake. I have reveled in the our great victories and agonized over inexplicable defeats. I went to cl**** with 'Sugar Bear' Hamilton. I anxiously await our next National Championship season.

But tonight, I go back to that smell of manure, and imagine DeMarco & Roy running roughshod over the Aggie D. Venables' blitzes freezing Weeden in confusion. Sooner D-Line stuffing the run game. Just like old times. With a hearty Boomer Sooner, away we go! Beat the everlovin **** outta the Aggies in Stoolwater! Let's get ****ed and get this party started!
